City fan suffers broken leg after being attacked at Leeds game

I'm not sure all stewards adopt that policy. In fact they definitely don't. There were two middle aged German sounding blokes, two seats up from me V Liverpool. Didn't pay much attention to them, apart from noticing they were talking foreign. Anyway, was having my half time pint and I saw them being led out, looking a bit perplexed at the whole situation. Didn't appear to speak any English or understand anything the stewards were asking them. I asked the local steward a bit later what had happened and apparently some busy fucker had noticed they didn't celebrate the City goals enough for their liking and reported them. Which seemed like all the evidence the stewards needed to boot them out. Felt bad for them.
Yeah, doesn’t sound like they did much wrong does it, sounds like maybe we don’t have any official policy on away fans in home end seats, or if we do they forgot to bring the stewards up to speed on it.

Easy option for the stewards? They arent the people who cause problems, I dont think anyone has a problem with neutrals taking in a city game particularly in the lesser games, many of us have done the same at other grounds / teams. It isn't comparable to a fan of whoever we are playing celebrating in front of us and shouldn't be dealt with the same, in fact it should be completely opposite. Respect City / Us and if you dont, expect to get turfed out.

The crux of the matter is that there are rules that affect home fans and there are rules that affect away fans. The club should be as over-zealous with enforcing their away fan rules as they are with banning long-term home fans for a single breach of some stupid rule.

Or, and here is a thought, stop making so many fucking rules in a desperate attempt to sanitise and monetise the game.

If there is one thing that annoys me about modern football more than anything else it's the number of unnecessary and over-complicated rules governing everything on- and off-field, whether it's IFAB, FIFA, UEFA, the FA, the PL or the club's executive. They all seem to have forgotten what the game is (should be) about.

It's depressing.

People say City fans shouldn't walk away, and I would never walk away.

Well, 1000's of City fans have walked away.(as we know from the numerous stories on Blue Moon)

Either by being pushed away by the club, walking away because of high ticket prices, overzealous rules and regulations that have been introduced and enforced by the club, and walking away from PL football in general, etc.

Even though those City fans have walked away, they still are and will always be City fans, regardless if they ever attend a City match again or not.

Some clarity on what walking away means is needed here...

For me, no longer going to games is not walking away.
Everyone who stops attending matches has their reasons, but they still follow the team.

Walking away, i'd say, is those who actually stop following the team, the i'm-done-with-football mentality, this is something i cannot comprehend.

Even if if if there is proven to be some truth in the accusations (which i personally don't believe is even remotely possible) we, as fans, did no wrong, so why should we decide that we no longer support the team.
Fuck me, we pretty much all knew swales was corrupt but we didn't stop supporting our beloved blues because of that knowledge.

Even if the premier league, the officials, and some of the other clubs are doing their best to nullify mcfc, that's not our fault. Football has always been bent, it's nothing new, fuck 'em!

In terms of what the thread is about, the club genuinely screwing fans left right and centre, this can indeed be a reason for no longer attending games, but i personally don't see it as a justifiable cause for abandoning the team altogether.
Owners come and go. Fans exist regardless.

Perhaps others feel differently, that's just my take.

Probably shouldn’t admit it but a very small part of me would kind of enjoy it if we got charged and were shit again

All the tourists would fuck off at least and they’d be giving all these new hospitality seats away for fuck all!

The thing though is that a lot of these 'tourist' fans live in the city and have fallen in love with the club itself .... they probably started watching city initially because we were winning trophies, but this club does still have a habit of 'growing on you' if you attend often enough!

The Asian fans for example can be extremely loyal to things they love, and you often see them in the City away support now, as well as the home games, so a lot of them they are clearly going the 'extra mile' to support the club ... I know a few of these asian fans myself because they live near me, they are 'City mad', they know all the players, they love Haaland, and they never miss a match ..... and socia media does indicate that City are extremely popular with plenty of fans all around the world these days.

Just for clarity this "walking away" is based on attending games not whether you still have feelings for the club.
If you stop going there is an empty seat. It doesn't matter if you've died, had a severe illness, been priced out, got fed up of the team not getting 100 points every season or can't cope with the parking restrictions and poor public transport. Or of course if you just can't be arsed any more. In all cases your contribution to the club on matchdays is zero. That's zero ticket money, zero food/drink money and zero crowd noise, whether you watch every game on TV or not.

Was supposed to have his operation this week last I read.

I had a pin put in my foot last Thursday, didnt make the Leeds game but someone used my ticket.

Tried today before 3pm to put it on the exchange and website wont let me do it. So that's me with a strike on my name from the club
Might be linked to the Cloudflare outage (out of anyones hands) so definitely contact the club.

There’s been one major incident that made me think I’d be walking away:
The Superleague - joining it and the OS statement. It took awhile to get the taste of that washed away. But it was the 1st time that I felt that the club was entirely led by monetary strategy, and that thought planted a seed.

The seed has been nourished, sadly, by other incidents since then - the silence about Instanbul chaos for fans, the lack of cctv for the Liverpool coin assault, the ongoing modicum of fan engagement on longterm issues, the expanding monetisation of matchday ‘experiences’, the ongoing fealty to the media. I’m sure there’s others that have affected me.

Added to prior (to The Superleague) incidents that have come back to mind:
The Liverpool coach attack, the 1m paltry payoff/lack of publicity for Liverpool illegally accessing our scouting database, the accepting of huge (relatively) fines for being a few minutes late compared to racist/violence fines. And again there’s probably more.

It’s all a bit depressing- we should be at the height of happiness after the past 1.5 decades of success, and yet…

Any good things happened over the last 10 years?

Bit confused what local fans, tourists and "Asian" fans are, tbh. Surely people who live in Manchester and go to every game are local fans to all intents and purposes?

I've sat in home end at Preston, Blackpool, Liverpool, Everton, Bolton over the years but always made sure I was sensible to avoid getting my head kicked in was pissed every time as well.
One of the Whitley brothers scored in the Everton game and I nearly celebrated out of pure shock!

Just tell everyone what a big fan you are but don't go because you "can't get a ticket" worked for a lot since the 90s.

They are the worst type to be fair. They don't support the club but reflect in the glory, probably wear a replica shirt in a local pub and leave with a few mins to go it not likely to win, but cheer every goal like it is a cup final even though it happened 15 seconds before they saw it.

Or you can be a fan who moves away without realising you can't get to games as the club hasn't moved with you, and then reinvent your past history as a super fan despite giving up your season ticket at Maine Rd and not really being interested until we become title contenders.

When people say "walk away" I think they still want City to win and will follow them on teletext, tv and radio, but just not put their hard earned into the club and attended games. Lots on the forum have already done that but criticise attendances, atmospheres, performance and other fans.
