James McAtee joins Forest for an overall fee of £30m

It's a strange one. You have Palmer, Delap ( and Lavia and Gittens at Chelsea), Harwood Bellis at Southampton, Forbs at Bruges for example getting game time, then you have Max Alleyne at Watford, Simpson Pusel at Celtic and quite a few others who you think ' why the hell did you buy them (or accept a loan) in the first place when you don't play the style to use them?'

I wonder whether some of these clubs have the owner or DOF signing players that the manager doesn't want. James certainly needs to step up from Championship side to Premier League standard, but he won't do it sat on his arse. Maybe he went there thinking Gibbs White was off? Hasn't a prayer under the Fisherman's Friend model.

He did play in Europe the other week.
Tosin Adarabioyo at Chelsea as well, Maresca as manager and even Sterling is still there until next window at least. Might as well call them City Lite :)

By all accounts he didn’t grasp it there either, or his chance at City. Maybe he’s just not that good.
Possibly. I think we tend to look at the academy lads through rose coloured glasses, and think/hope that they'll all be the next Phil, or Nico. Truth is, the majority of them are nowhere near the required level to feature for us. Doyle, Delap and McAtee are three off the top of my head that we all hoped would make it with us, but they weren't of the standard required to do so. Palmer is the obvious "one that got away" in recent years. But even he had a mixed campaign last season; nowhere near the heights he reached in his first season at Chelsea. And he seems to be struggling with injuries so far this season.

Not seem him play there but with assumptions and hindsight I will slag him off, when at the time it looked an ideal move all around...

Plus, Palmer isn’t a two way player.

If the likes of Bernardo and Foden and Cherki have to defend, then Palmer would have to as well, and just never really saw much of that.

Always felt like a luxury player. When they’re scoring and assisting, fine. The minute that dries up and a few results go against you, it’s all hands on deck and luxury takes a back seat.

Yeah I agree with all of that.

I do think regardless of the manager, Forrest was a bad move for Macca, I don’t think he has the pace to play out wide, so he’s competing with Gibbs White centrally who is probably one of the best in his position in the league at this moment.

Agree with most of your post except...Delap.
I do think he will turn into a brilliant centre forward. His touch is outstanding, and he believes in himself. Powerful and graceful at the same time.
We will see.

Delap needs to control his aggression.
Ridiculous in yesterday's match, spent the most of it it fighting with his marker and then gets injured in the process and has to go off

Did the same for our youth teams, especially against his former club Derby. It always seemed either personal or they just knew which buttons to press. He's still doing the stupid stuff now and I can't see him stopping, much as I like the rest of his game.

Good post. Although I think Foden was nurtured quite a lot by Guardiola whereas O'Reilly is playing game after game and is proving his worth. Although some may scoff at this, being picked to play for his country is a huge step in his first proper full season. I agree with you about Palmer and I think that's a shame if it's because he didn't want to wait around because his time would have come.

I reckon there's a player in McAtee that blooms around 30. He's 23 now and no longer a youth talent. So when you compare him to his contemporaries he's getting nowhere near that England first team anytime soon

Not his first time at getting embroiled in a street fight, when playing professional football.
He alone can control this unnecessary aggression.
The best sportsmen rise about this.
Not sure he will ever be mature enough to control himself...
