Thought this all along - everybody with right-minded leaders should cut deals with each other as though the US doesn't exist, then announce every one of them with any journalists present primed to not even mention the US in any press conferences.

I'm sick of seeing news items - about issues that don't directly involve him - inevitably refer to Trump, as though the entire world requires his permission to do everything.

This would have no effect upon MAGA - they're too insular and some probably think that the UK is the capital of Europe - but the tacit cutting-off of America would at least maintain a sense of national pride.

However aggressively done, the next sensible US Administration would understand and still welcome the world back with open arms immediately upon taking office. And world leaders could start acting like it again.

Look how dignified but strong Carney has been - more of that, please.

A reminder there are many Trump voters/supporters on this forum, interestingly they arnt around to post in this thread anymore after giving it large for years but can still post in the football sections :)

Not a one can defend their perspectives a toss, but as bad are posters like Damocles, who doesn’t support Trump, but told us all as smugly as he could that we were all overreacting and Trump’s presidency would have any impact on anyone because he was just a regular ol’ Republican and nothing to hyperventilate about.

The guy is an absolute lunatic. Bragging about bailing out the farmers after he fucked them over with his tariffs, now wants to tariff Potash from Canada so he's going to fuck them over again after he just paid them for the first fucking over.

Lets assume for a minute the Republicans get their arses handed to them at the midterms, Just Dim Vance doesn't have the ability to maintain the corruption and the Democrats gain control of both houses. American leans towards sanity, but how many friends will they have left around the world? How (or even can) they regain their position? Will Europe quickly forget and return to pre-shitgibbon levels of complacency? Will Canada and Mexico forget?

I think the rest of the world will be stronger for them been weaker, Europe will not forget not should they, like they are weening themselves off Russian gas and oil, doing the same with American will only weaken them as they won’t have as much influence. Trump has done untold damage to over 80 years of friendship and it will never be the same. All empires fall eventually and I think this is the start of Americas fall, we know we can’t trust China and Russia, America is in the same breath now.

Trump admires Putin and wants the US to be like Russia.

Just as the existence of a democratic Ukraine threatens Putin, so the existence of a strong democratic Europe threatens Trump's autocratic kleptocracy. Merely by their existence showing that there is a better way to govern.

China's growing influence is pretty much impossible to stop
I reckon in twenty/thirty years everything in international markets (such as oil) that's quoted in $ will either be replaced by, or, will be quoted alongside in ¥

The USAF would lose a lot of strategic assets if the UK kicked them out. Same with mainland Europe.

The UK stand to lose a whole lot more.

I understand its gratifying to complain but Europe hasn't shown its able to make hard choices necessary to defend itself without the US. Look at the uproar in France over the "losing children" comment and national service. The fact there is a winnable war in Europe currently and Europe is letting Ukraine fight it out alone says all you need to know. Talk is cheap.

Can’t argue with much of what you’ve said there, which is a bit barmy given all the European blood that was spilled defending American interests in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Although I agree with everything you say, I don't believe that Europe can respond differently to Trump yet !.
Of course they have realised he is a clown, unfortunately the most powerful one on earth.
Trump is almost ready for the next stage, he has quickly disarmed his opponents, has made good allys with China and Russia who will support his next step, very frightening for our young ,here and in Europe.
If Europe acts quickly and spends 3/4 % I believe they can secure the borders, at least while Russia fill the coffers again.
