10 | Rayan Cherki - 2025/26

Still feel both the team and he himself would have been better had he come on for the last 20 over starting. Really left Nunes up shits creek with no cover at all.

some flashes of brilliance and unlucky not to get himself an assist at least but if nothing comes off, It's hard to justify him starting if he's not putting in a shift.

The bit on the first half where we were looking to break and a very risky ball was one, he didn’t take it. Just stopped the ball, let everyone reorganise themselves and take the sting out showed a lot of what we needed I.e right place, right time
I noticed him telling everyone to calm down and slow it down. It helped the team to stifle Real's tempo and gave us early second-half control.

Not was I was expecting given what was reported when we got him

He was apparently some lazy, flash player that Lyon wanted rid of due to attitude issues. None of that so far with us - he grew into the game today

I think he’s growing into the role/club and I can see him being man of the match in a big game or cup final before the end of the season. Looks like he has the mindset/minerals

I said this as soon as the lineup came out. I always want one of him or Doku coming off the bench away.

On 2 occasions he made a Kevin type run into space and Nunes didn't chip it over the top to him. He was livid. That would have been an easy chance.

While keeping possession is key. We have to look for these runs.

You know what Pep never mentions about Messi, that the fucker would stroll around the pitch wating for an attack or to pick up a loose ball in the opposition half, he was adept at blocking passes and interceptions but he was hardly busting a gut to chase down. a forward or gettingback in the box to block a shot (something Haaland does)

never got why he bemonas players like cherki for such when his greatest talent was not much different.

A flair maverick like him or cherki best form of defence is their skill and waiting to steal the ball and create, they don't need to be on. our 18 yard line putting in tackles, the "he doesn't track back" nonsense doesn't matter if he is assisting 2-3. goals.
Fair point about Messi walking about the pitch.

His defensive work depends where you play him doesn't shirk getting stuck in but also is not an up and down the pitch winger. What he does bring is Pep's favourite form of defence..Control.
Again, he's had more touches and passes than our 2 in midfield(Silva and Phil). 52% possession when he was on, 26% after he went off.
Ran game vs Sunderland, steadied the ship vs Fulham and come on to assist the winner vs Leeds

Lyon really spliced Kev and Dave together then put him in the bargain bin lol.

His game management is really good for a young player. He was the only one keeping his head when we nearly fell apart at Fulham, and showed it again at times last night. There’s a real calmness and authority about him on the ball.

YES. I think it stems from absolute faith in his own technique and his being a first-team player for such a time.

He was the only player who looked like he had any confidence in the first half. When Madrid were on top, he was calm and won fouls, kept the ball, etc. Put Valverde on his arse, megged Rudiger...

That swagger is something you must have to reach the top.
