There are trade-offs at times: playing beautifully or being efficient. Pep puts winning big trophies over doing nice tricks. Cherki is not the finished article. Pep wants to develop him into a team-first player. Some average players like Erik Lamela have scored rabona goals, it didn't make them special players.

I got Pep's point perfectly well, thank you very much - even though I've no idea why the point(s) he raised could not be kept in the dressing room.
If Cherki believed he had the ability to put it on Foden's head at that moment then well done him for backing himself. As Pep himself said, he can't teach Haaland anything about scoring goals because Pep doesn't have that knowledge or skill set. Maybe as a former holding midfield player he (Pep) can't teach Cherki anything about creating chances in tight areas with that level of skill required either ?
I get it....leading 1-0 away at the Bernabeu in the 98th minute...try a rabona or run it into the corner to kill the clock? Of course, Cherki should do the latter every time. However, a chance to put the game to bed whilst already 2-0 up at home to Sunderland ? Yes, a calculated risk worth taking which sealed the win and lit up the whole stadium.
I didn't need to hear Pep banging on about Messi or keeping things simple. Football can be exciting and successful at the same time. Getting the balance right is the key and I hope Pep allows Cherki the same freedoms he allows Doku (my favourite player in the current team btw).

"If Cherki believed he had ..." - at the professional level you do nothing on a belief. Nothing. Its like with a medicine. Its statistics. Nothing else should have mattered. And thing is Pep is telling Cherki and is going to tell Cherki in the future that by default he needs to look for a statistically best solutions not for other ones even if hes believing them.

"I didn't need to hear Pep banging" - you do not, because you clearly is not a one to learn things, but many others need it. We contribute to the club to pay Pep to tell Cherki exactly this - that he needs to keep thing simple, because in the long run thats better for clubs results.

Messi is accidental in all of this. Its a great example though for anyone, because hes arguably the best football player in the history and he never made rabona assist. Do you really cannot catch the greatness of this example and why to put it for Cherki?

Things are and should be communicated to players through various channels of communication, because the weight of message is different when something is done in public. And Pep is a master of communication as well, maintaining squad etc. Thats why he never been fired, not many been close to his longevity as a coach in the PL and most importantly nobody has ever achievied anything close to his results (win ratio etc).

Pep knows more about management and communication than our fans combined. For the simple reason fans have no experience whatsoever in management at that level. Pep has managed more talents than any other manager in history too. All these complaints about his communication skills are rather odd. He knows what he's doing.

No apologies for repeating what I said on Cherki thread:

A lot of people have misunderstood Pep’s comments but if you watch his post match presser, he doesn’t mind the rabona (so long as it works), he wants the ball crossed accurately as possible at the right time; he doesn’t tell the players how to cross the ball.

His players have freedom in the final third to make things happen and be creative. It is out of possession and in the transition to the final third that he has a system that he expects players to use. He also demands hard work from every player.

He points to Messi as an example (a great one) about how keeping things simple can be effective but also clearly loved Messi’s ability to go past multiple players like they weren’t there.

A wise man once said something that always stuck with me: the very best players do the simple things correctly, time after time.
 
I was going mental at that first 30 minutes and a Madrid side with Mbappe might've scored 3, we got lucky after that with two set piece goals to get ahead.

Second half was much better and we were in total control until the subs, but I don't blame him for those subs, we have a tough away league game coming up so he needed to make them.

I can't ignore that first 30 minutes though, it's pretty much what we always do when we go to the Bernabeu and also Anfield, we start so slow and lifeless and allow the opposition and the crowd to get to us and we find ourselves in trouble, and Pep's been here long enough that I don't think it will ever change.
 
Hopefully this win shuts up all the entitled crybaby cunts who were dissing him after the leverkusen game with their “ooooh that’s 2 extra games in January now” bollocks

Personally I'm worried at how reliant we are on 12-13 players. Apart from who played today he only really seems to trust Reijnders and Savinho to any real extent.

Going to need those two plus Marmoush, Bobb, RAN, Khusanov and Lewis to step it up a bit.
 
Thought his setup was dogshit, players really dug him out of the shit tonight. A baffling misuse of Bernardo that i cannot work out the idea behind. Subs were uncharacteristically good though, picked exactly the right time to make them and added some energy into the side before it was too late. Please don't set us up like that again.
 
thought he got the initial tactics all wrong and basically played to madrid's strength. doku narrow with o'reilly tucking into midfield - rodrygo was killing us on the wings. however they both eventually returned to the wing and it was much better.

He’s been using Bernardo in the same way for months, he trusts him to do the job he’s asked him to do. I think the only thing that was slightly different tonight was Oreilly was working hard to keep Rodrygo quiet and didn’t help Nico as much as he normally does.
