Don’t you remember Snowden? - good film btw
The NsA had direct pipes into google, Facebook, Microsoft etc servers , and they’ve had them for years, even prior to Snowden going rogue in 2013. It’ll be even more sophisticated now, and even more comprehensive.

Basically anything you do on the internet that goes through a major US ( I’m sure we , UK, are similar) internet company, will be siphoned and auto looked at.
So anything you type is known, tie that into IP address, username, email, real name etc, and you’ll be indexed/cross indexed etc.

So, deleting apps prior to landing, and denying at border, isn’t going to work, if you’ve ready been indexed and flagged. they’ll know what apps you’ve used, and if you then deny using them…

Iirc , BM is hosted in the US - I may be wrong in that, now/entirely.

Note: if you are white European, unless you’ve wished death on people, then you’re probably going to be fine… but I’d buy a cheap compatible phone, back up your current phone, swap in the sim and don’t set it up for anything other than calls/texts, leave original phone at home, before passing through border, then restore your cheap phone from the backup. But hey that’s paranoid me. On leaving before border, wipe phone back to basics again. When you are home, swap sim and carry on.

I'm fairly sure that if I was to try and go to the idiotic bit of North America between Mexico and Canada, my unwavering "support" for Taco Don would earn me a nice unscheduled visit to El Salvador.
Good thing is if you fry from Dublin they do the checks BEFORE you fly.

Basically, every single account you have associated with your email addresses (multiple email accounts) they will at least know what accounts you have associated with that email address, and I would not be surprised if they can access your data.

Very good advice.

Pick up a US SIM on Amazon prior to travel and get a cheap smartphone. I would also consider a new gmail address and WhatsApp/Signal account for messaging while you are away and then bin them when you get back. I'd probably stay away from Facebook and Twitter also. I know most people will be itching to post their updates to social media but give it a swerve if you can.

Or simply give the whole country a swerve, you'd have to drag me kicking and screaming to go there at the moment and that's coming from someone who's been 5 times and loved it.

Yep I think if this comes in tourism will fall off a cliff over there, I’m not paying thousands of pounds to get there and be turned away or worse because if said I hope Trump dies soon. Hey it’s free speech isn’t it, oh wait until it’s not. Insurance companies will probably have to insert clauses now as well to cover themselves, one of the questions will be do you like Trump!

I’ve been around a dozen times, loved every visit, and there’s no chance I’ll go back for the foreseeable, which actually makes me sad.
 
I recogniz(s)e many don’t/won’t come over for WC, but for those that do, I hope England makes the final because you know he’ll be at it. I expect all brainpower will be devoted to coming up with some fine songs so you all can tell him just what you think of him, as befits English footy fans.
