47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

Foden’s strengths are in ball-carrying, combination play and final third moments, not dictating tempo like KDB

Did you ever watch KDB play a game of football? His whole game was about the first 3 things, he couldn't dictate tempo to save his life.

One of the most ridiculous posts I have ever seen on here and that's saying something.

Wasn't the yellow card. He just had an off day. It happens. He'll be back against Palace.
Exactly. Off days do happen.
Class will always push itself back to the top
I do think an early yellow would have had an effect tho...bearing in mind what Phil has had to endure this season, Newcastle away, that lunge,no card,.......
It must play on his mind.
Altho tbf,to be professional, you gotta let it go.....
Let the manic fans like me stew over that Newcastle away result/ ref/ var / performance........

Reminds me a bit of the posts about never being able to find a like-for-like replacement for Yaya, and how we'd be doomed when he hung up his boots. Unsurprisingly we didn't replace him; we bought in different players and began playing a different system, and we became even better.

It doesn't really matter whether or not Phil is or isn't KDB or Silva (neither of which are like one another), only that he can play whatever role Pep has for him in whatever system we're currently playing.
Basically.

Won 3 consecutive Ballon D'Ors. A great goal scoring AM with outrageous ball skills...
Yeah Platini...the player ,was Absolutely brilliant.
The most graceful midfield player in the world, used to float on the pitch. I was always in awe of his footballing ability, pure magic..

Platini holds a ridiculous record: 9 goals in 5 games in Euro 84. And he wasn't even a striker.
I know, incredible. He led Serie A in goal scoring three consecutive seasons playing as a 10...

A bit dodgy post playing career, lol...

He's decent but he's not Foden.
Is he fuck.
Not many players are at fodens level.
The lad had a bad season last season.
But he's back.
It would be unfair to compare any player to David Silva.
But this lad is the nearest thing you will get.
I first went to city in 84.
Watched a lot of shit players.
Paul lake was amazing.
The best lad from our youth team in years.
He was special.
Kinky was just amazing.
But wrong time.
Then I watched el mago .
I've never seen anything close in a city shirt.
Foden from the first time I saw him was special ..he's gone past lake as the best player our youth team has ever produced.
And when he's on his game his sometimes close to el mago.
But I don't think I will ever see a player control a game.
And control all the other 10 players in his team like Silva did for city.
But...
When foden drops deep.
Picks the ball up from the centre half it reminds me of el mago.
The lads special.
Very special.
He might not get to David Silva levels.
But he could get very close .

He lacks the intelligence to be our main playmaker. I’m sorry, but if Cherki and Doku were complemented by someone with Odegaard’s brain and vision, we’d be unstoppable.

Don’t get me wrong; he’s having a good season compared to last year. Been productive in recent games and has definitely seen more involvement. But if City want to become the best team in Europe again, we’re still missing that profile who truly complements our front 3. It was obvious last night, not just in terms of creativity, but also in how we control matches.

We miss that intelligent central playmaker: KDB in his prime type, or a young Fabregas or Kroos. Someone who dictates rhythm. Foden has talent, but he doesn’t yet have the game IQ to control matches consistently or find space at the right moments.

Fans pretend he’s going through some physical issue or lacks desire. That’s not true. The real problem is his speed of thought and the execution passing and shooting, which just aren’t at the level the greats in that position have. Rodri coming back will help with control of course, you still need someone in that 10 role acting as a genuine creative hub.
You’re just farting out words for the sake of it

Where to start with this?
Firstly, the point about Doku and Cherki is utterly bizarre. You are weaving in an imaginary player (the combination of either Doku or Cherki with Odegarrd) into a conversation about Phil. Talk about a complete non point.

Also….the execution of Phil’s *shooting* isn’t good enough? Are we watching the same player? Sure, his creative passing isn’t at KDBs level, but the idea Phil’s shooting isn’t good enough is just pure drivel.

You won't get any argument from me. I love Foden. I'm the one saying Odegaard can't touch him...
And in all fairness El Mago was a genius but could never shoot from outside the box like PWF. Very few can...

Much as I hate UEFA ,there is no way we LOSE all three (at best) subjective decisions if they had happened in the Chumps League.
It would NEVER happen to Real/Barca, Bayern,PSG in their respectives Leagues.
Disneyland have not lost a subjective one this season, hence their rise to 6th.
