Arsenal Thread | 2025/26

The early season gloss is beginning to lose its sheen, I think. Quite a few of the victories they've had have been through sudden good fortune, not from something Arteta dreamed up on the practice ground, and luck like that cannot sustain a club throughout a long strength-sapping season with the all demands the Premier League puts upon you - and when you include cups and other situations like injuries and suspensions etc, it is a long hard slog on any team. Sure, they'll strengthen in January, but as we've seen the transfer window in winter doesn't usually have the promise of decent signings like the summer does - it can be very hit and miss. And Arteta needs a big squad because they seem to get a lot of injuries, at least a lot more than many others.

There's a long long way to go before the season reaches its climax, but I'd rather be in our shoes than theirs.

Are they ‘stumbling’? They drew at Chelsea and lost at Villa. Those results aren’t the end of the world

They’ve been to most difficult away grounds whereas we haven’t yet.

City need to buy in January to keep this up
I wasn't convinced they'd keep up with the pace they were setting over a season prior to the Chelsea result. I'm not sure they'll go back to that form either, but if they do it'll be tough.

Hopefully this isn't their poor part of the season and there is a much worse run of results coming.

No, his really not. no point debating that one, done it a few time and would love nothing more than him to have been a flop at Arsenal.
Yeah he really is and the way he plays the game his legs will have left him in 2-3 seasons.

Just look at Casimiro if you want to see what Rices future game holds

Terrible player, absolute flop.

They're struggling but in a period where they've had a lot of injuries. It's no surprise. They got the win against Wolves and that's all that matters ultimately.

Their squad is big enough to cope now. Last year or the year before they wouldn't have had the players to come in and get the results. They're top of the league, top of the CL table and looking capable of getting the results they need even with players missing.

Our only chance is the return of Rodri. Get him back, fully fit and we can put together a winning run that takes us to the title. Unless that happens I think we'll struggle because we can still spend large parts of a game under pressure. Even at Palace we looked all at sea for large periods.

They're two points ahead, having dropped points in three of their last six matches, and had more than a little luck against Wolves. They also need to come to the Etihad.

We're clearly not a 100pt season team right now, but Arsenal don't appear to be anything like as good as we thought they might be earlier this season.

So Kane and Bale couldn’t be labelled as class when they was winning nothing for Spurs ? Shearer never class when not winning silverware at Newcastle ?
Le Tissier never class ?
Francisco Totti all his career at Roma winning just 1 title?

Many more examples of world class players hardly winning anything for their clubs. Logic doesn’t work.

Also applying this logic - Bellingham winning trophies for Madrid makes him world class? .. checkmate indeed.

I know all that, but as I said they've had a load of injuries and it's coincided with some difficult fixtures. Sunderland and Villa are the best teams at home in the league other than us and Arsenal. They should have won the Chelsea game but I don't think their results there are disastrous. Prior to their injuries, particularly without Saliba and Gabriel missing they were heading for high 80s points wise. We're looking at 80pts at the moment.

So we either need them to continue to struggle with injuries, particularly defensively because goal scoring still isn't coming easily for them or we need to find a real upturn in results.

The reason I don't think we'll win it is because I think their best is much better than ours and I don't think we'll find the upturn we need in performances. We have made it to the middle of December without playing a whole 90 minutes well. We have large periods of chaos in our games where we just cannot cope with the opposition. We're getting away with it at the moment.

There's only one thing that can take us to the title regardless of what Arsenal do and that's Rodri returning fully fit and playing the majority of games. He takes us to a different level. If we can get him back sometime soon the game changes.

All I see is a bunch of players with major trophies on their CV

If you think Rice is anywhere near in the same calibre as any of those players than football isn’t your sport.

Rice is a terrific player and you are bonkers if you say otherwise. He'd walk into any team in the PL, City included.

Odegaard is overrated. Rice is underrated.
He walks into the City team that started Sunday. He doesn't walk into a fully fit City side.
He's a good player and I'd have been happy to sign him but you and the happyammer are a bit deluded in how highly you rate him.

He has a great workrate but is a very limited footballer in many other aspects.

He can’t receive the ball on the half turn and has an average first touch. He also looks clunky when he runs with the ball. There is no elegance whatsoever.

Like I said the guy will be finished at the age of 30. His strengths aren’t sustainable in the long term.

The English media don’t help. There is a huge PR campaign seemingly determined to put him forward as being a success.

It’s absolutely criminal that Rodri a far superior footballer had to actually go and win the treble and ballondor before getting the kind of recognition and praise from the biased English media that this guy gets week in week out for scoring two free kicks against Real Madrid & being Arsenals runner up player of the season
