'
Rice is coveted by most of the Premier League's top clubs and it's easy to see why: the England midfielder's industrious work is backed up in the stats, winning possession more often than anyone else (334), making the most interceptions (63) and only eight players made more tackles (79) than he did across the campaign. Indeed, that possession won total is the most by a player in a season since 2017-18 (Abdoulaye Doucoure, 345) and the sixth-most in a season on record since 2003-04.

Rice is also prolific in carrying the ball, ranking second for ball carries (702), ball carry distance (7,136m) and ball carry progress distance (3,827m) Only three midfielders made more successful long passes than Rice (151). Rice also covered the third-most distance in the Premier League this season, a total of 412km, which is almost the distance of running 10 marathons.'
Almost all of his lung busting runs are into dead ends. Ends up running back towards where he started.

Let’s end this debate over Declan Rice for good. Ranking of Premier League CDM’s …

God tier: basically just Rodri

Elite tier: Kante, Fernandinho, Makelele, Vieira and others

Premium tier: Essien, Barry, Petit, Rice etc

Bang average tier: Scholes ;-)

Debate over
Scholes is only ever talked about as elite because of the team he played for and the number of trophies he won, but imagine he didn't have the protections afforded by the GPC's special relationship with the PL and it's merry band of cheats referee's?

He'd be Lee Bowyer lite.

He's absolutely miserable twat on that YouTube thing he does with Nicky Butt and that annoying guy from Bolton. Doesn't ever seem to have a nice thing to say.

'Good win for Arsenal at the weekend Paul?'.
'I'm not convinced, in my day we'd be putting 5 or 6 past these low table sides'.

'Paul, thoughts on Haaland being the fastest to 100 goals?'
'He knows where the goal is but in my day we expected more from our strikers - I don't think he's a United-type striker'.

Fuck off you twat - in your day there was 1, max 2 competitors at any time and the refs let you play until you scored and went blind when you fouled anyone.

I never even knew he did a YouTube thing, and even if I did, I certainly wouldn't be watching it. ;-)

And I know this is a City forum but LOL at having Fernandinho above Rice, Petit and Essien!
Really?

As I wrote recently, Dinho was a one-man midfield for us in the early years of Pep’s time at City. He didn’t have Vieira, as Petit did, or Makélélé, as Essen did, nor Zubimendi, as Rice does, alongside him to help him stem opposition attacks.

Fernandinho was an absolute beast in the pivot rôle, and his contribution to our success should never be underestimated.

Imagine thinking Petit is in the same league as Fernandinho. Just imagine

Vieira and Keane above Rodri IMHO. Or at least level. And above anyone, untouchable on his own is Ngolo Kante who was a cheat code for having the equivalent of 12 players on the pitch.

Just a little bit of Arsenal bias there - Fernandinho was a better player than Rice and Petit and I’ll happily die on that hill. As for Essien - just looked it up, he played 168 games for Chelsea in 9/10 seasons. Make of that what you will.

And then there’s Rodri- the Ballon d’Or winner. Should have won it the year before when we won the treble in my opinion but whatever. The most important player in a treble winning team. Just look at the difference in City with and without him. As I say, god level.

EDIT: I nearly put Kante on the same level as Rodri, just because of the ground he covered. Rodri undeniably a better footballer though

Lol Fern is well clear of Petit, Essien was very good but also very injury prone, and you can compare Rice to Fern when he actually wins something.

As for Ballon d'or Rodri, he's better than all of them.

When do the players actually behind to lose faith and question this clowns coaching methods? 5 years with no trophies and they play an effective but very uninspiring style of football. If you’re a serious footballer don’t you get to a stage where you begin to get fed up?

Imagine the likes of Haaland or De Bruyne prior to him being at City and not having won anything in 5 years. Wouldn’t you be starting to wonder what you are doing there?

You can talk about loyalty or being part of a project but top players want to be winning the top trophies.

Arteta as well hardly seems like the inspiring type. From what I can see he has very little charisma and personality.

Just interested, what players do you class as top players at Arsenal and where do you think they should go to that's better than where they are?

Pretty sure Arsenal will win trophies. They'll probably get one of the PL or Champions League this season. Despite a horrendous injury list they are still 2 clear in the PL and 6 from 6 in the CL - once those players come back (and all are due back by end Dec) the team will motor. Arsenal's squad depth has gotten them this far - imagine what would happen if City lost Haaland or Foden etc for any length of time.

I hope it's the PL with the caveat that we win it on the pitch, not in a courtroom as else it won't count in my book.

Wonder what would happen if we lost, say, Rodri and Stones.

Raya, Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori, Plodder, Saka, Odegaard, Gyokeres, Eze, Madueki?
I’ve missed a few £50m, £60m and £70m reserves out there plus a few ten year olds but you get my point?
