Arsenal Thread | 2025/26

White, Jesus, Havertz and most of those you’ve lost haven’t been starters.
Name your first choice eleven.
We've lost Gabriel, Saliba, Saka, Gyokeres, Martinelli, Madueke, Trossard, Calafiori, Mosquera, Havertz, Jesus, White, Odegaard.

Many of those are starters and the others are immediate back ups. Issue is in some cases we have lost the starter and the backup at the same time! EG losing Saliba and Mosquera same time. Losing Gyokeres and Havertz at the same time. Losing Martinelli and Trossard at the same time.

Vieira and Keane above Rodri IMHO. Or at least level. And above anyone, untouchable on his own is Ngolo Kante who was a cheat code for having the equivalent of 12 players on the pitch.

And I know this is a City forum but LOL at having Fernandinho above Rice, Petit and Essien!
Give over man.

Rodri was our best player every week for three years, to be honest I don’t think there was a better player in the world across 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24.

Rodri was the heartbeat to everything good we did in winning the most trophies ever by an a English side in that period of time (8 trophies in 3 seasons).

Vieira, Kane and Kante were never the best players in the world for one month never mind three years.

Rice has had a good 18 months. Fernandinho pisses all over him.

Ugh enough of this. Every year the excuses get rolled out. For a couple of years there was even a Premier League refereeing conspiracy to favour City (where did that go last season?). City have been without their best player for the entire season and have a midfielder from the youth team at left back. It's a normal part of football to have an injury list.

Something else making injury as an excuse when you have £50m+ players to be bring in for every position though.

I like you as a poster but suggesting Vieira and Keane were better than Rodri is batshit mental.

Rodri is probably the best DM ever.

Agreed and it’s absolutely criminal what he has had to achieve to even get close to the level of recognition from the English media that marathon man who has won nothing Declan Rice receives on a constant basis.

'
Rice is coveted by most of the Premier League's top clubs and it's easy to see why: the England midfielder's industrious work is backed up in the stats, winning possession more often than anyone else (334), making the most interceptions (63) and only eight players made more tackles (79) than he did across the campaign. Indeed, that possession won total is the most by a player in a season since 2017-18 (Abdoulaye Doucoure, 345) and the sixth-most in a season on record since 2003-04.

Rice is also prolific in carrying the ball, ranking second for ball carries (702), ball carry distance (7,136m) and ball carry progress distance (3,827m) Only three midfielders made more successful long passes than Rice (151). Rice also covered the third-most distance in the Premier League this season, a total of 412km, which is almost the distance of running 10 marathons.'
So he runs around a lot. Good put him in the track team for team GB.

It’s great that arse have stumbled. Shows a weakness I thought was eroding over the last few seasons.

Still think we need a massive run and Rodri back to some level never mind if city pick up any injuries.

Arsenals injuries will slow and get back on it. I know we say it all the time but it’s the next month that matters. We need to be close. Chasing is great but no more than 5 points.

Bonus chase this season. Did not expect us to pick up so many wins without rodders but we have found a way.
They can have a full strength team but unless they can handle the pressure and of a title run in it’s not going to mean much.

Arsenals best chance of winning the league is building an unassailable lead now. And they are running out of time to do it.

Just interested, what players do you class as top players at Arsenal and where do you think they should go to that's better than where they are?
Saka is a decent player but let’s be honest he’s no better now than he was 2 years ago. City, Liverpool heck even Chelsea probably present a better chance of winning silverware

What if you lost Stones, Dias, Gvardiol and O'Reilly at the same time? Then as they come back you lost Haaland, Foden, Cherki and Marmoush at the same time.

That's pretty much what Arsenal have faced so far this season.
Oh cry me a fucking river. We played virtually a whole season without De Bruyne (and had other significant injuries) - it’s what champions do. Your lot just constantly looking for excuses and it will cost you

Fernandinho was one million percent a better footballer than Declan Rice, I seriously don’t know how you can argue against this.

It really tiresome & ignorant how much our players that won everything consistently all have their achievements downplayed. The mental gymnastics continues when Pep & the clubs history is also questioned.

Back on point Fernandinho played for years in a position Pep considers the most important position of the team. 5 prem leagues, centurion, domestic quad etc etc

Rodri could have thrived in the 90s and 00s and still been world class and in demand by any team.

He has the stature and physical qualities, the technique and intelligence to play in any era.

Keane was a great player and a fantastic leader of men. One of the great captains, however, I am unconvinced his style would last two minutes in the modern game. He was the perfect 90s midfielder.

Vieira was class but he lacks Rodri's creative output.

Many forget Rodri was good for 10-15 goals and 10 assists a season. How many players do you know that can play DM and dictate play to an elite level as well as get 20/25 goal contributions a season.

That's why he won a Ballon d'Or.

Given Arsenal have finished 2nd in the league the last few years, and are on course to finish in the top 2 again, the players probably see the project already equal to any project out there.

Of course, you can always argue a case for City, but you don't really rate any of the players anyway so wouldn't want them, that's fair enough.

But Liverpool being 7th, 10 points behind, manager under real pressure, 2 best players aging and half way out the door, I'm not sure I'm looking over there thinking I want to jump ship just now.

And you can rule out Chelsea, because they've basically become a project in themselves of trying to buy top emerging talent on reasonable wages with high incentives, they don't really buy established top players on big money any more.

Spain? Are current Real or Barca better? We beat Real home and away last season, City just beat Real.in their own ground, Chelsea hammered Barca a couple of weeks back.

Go to a 1 club dominated league like Bayern in Germany or PSG in France? Maybe in a few years of they get to Kane's age and are desperate for trophies.

Mate you could have a fully fit squad like you probably have had over the last 5/6 sesons and you would still shit it like you have done time and time again over the las 5 years ..............your mentality monsters look at the beating of City lsst season the huge over reaction and what did you go on to do ????????? Nothing at all and until you sort that out then you aint gonna d fook all bud .......... i get celebrating but the way you go about it its on par with a club winning a trophy or a lower league getting a shock cup win not winning a PL match when there is so much more to do
