Pep’s restaurant Tast Catala closing down this weekend

shame it’s a lovely spot to sit outside in the sun.

Food is great as well, very high class. Think it’s been a victim of the anti car policies enacted by the council given it’s location as much as it has the rising costs.

Been a few times in the past but simply wouldn’t consider getting dressed up and heading out for an evening meal around there now if I was with my partner due to the difficulty of getting a taxi anywhere close to it, same with Kala when that went.
 
Exaggeration to call it Pep’s it’s something he has a financial interest in along with the other Catalans The hospitality industry has been hit hard over the years and to survive for seven years isn’t bad with the government increasing minimum wage and NHI business rates and the greedy landlords it’s hardly surprising

Seen Pep, Txiki and quite a few players there in the past
Shame it’s a classy joint with better food than most of its direct rivals, and a loss to the city, but as you say, that sector has been struggling in Manchester recently. Yet the instagram friendly poser hellholes around Spinningfields and Factory keep springing up, like Soho House
 
Wow, this comes as a bit of a shock.
Used to love going in Tast even just for a quick drink or two. I thought the food was always good , if slightly expensive . With the tie in with City hospitality , I thought they’d go from strength to strength.
We got to know a few of the staff quite well too.
Hopefully, I’ll be able to pop in on Friday or Saturday to wish them well.

Yeah it was much better food than El Gato but that’s priced more competitively
Tast got more expensive and exclusive as you ascended each floor, it was like the Ballard novel/Wheatley film High-Rise
Pep and his mates on the top floor
