Enzo Maresca "high among candidates" to replace Guardiola if he leaves next summer

From the article

“According to numerous well-placed sources outside the club — speaking on the condition of anonymity to protect relationships — there is a growing anticipation of this being Guardiola’s last season at City. A firm decision will likely be made closer to the campaign finishing”

“In the meantime, City are advancing contingency planning for the possibility of that outcome materialising.”

No other candidates mentioned only other significant thing is Maresca has switched agents to Mendez

The rest is just conjecture and padding

Ornstein is well place with either Arsenal or Liverpool and does get reliable info. However is he being fed disinformation to destabilise City now we on the rise and have transfer targets in January that rivals might well be looking at, is it propaganda to destabilise and unsettle targets?
Disinformation about Chelsea and City, to be exact. Surprised they didn't add Emery into the potential candidates.

Was hoping this was an old thread that had been bumped cos Maresca was in the news for something (other than being linked with us)

Tbh I doubt even pep himself knows what he is going to do at the end of the season at this stage.

I’ve long thought pep would announce a departure rather than let his contract just run down (he wouldn’t want the distraction).

This would be his 10th year and has won it all at city. There isn’t really much left to do and with the World Cup this summer plenty of nations will be looking for a new manager for the next 4 year cycle (pep has long said he wants to manage at a World Cup) I can see it but again im sure nothing has been decided yet.

I also think the fact pep is losing his most trusted and possibly favourite player in Bernardo silva this summer js a big factor.

I think if we win the league pep will walk. If we don’t then it’s 50/50 imo. Ornstein isn’t just making this up

Absolute shambles of a day on and off the pitch, but will never overshadow the 2011 cup win and 2012 title.

Just like Pep's tenure won't be defined by losing cup finals to the rags and Crystal Palace.

Anyway......Maresca. Doesn't exactly get the pulse racing. But in the event of Pep's departure, I'm not sure who does!
Vinny would.

City will have a contingency plan in place, just in case Pep doesn’t extend.

It’s not a surprise that Maresca is on that list. By law of averages, he’ll have been sacked by Chelsea by then.

It’s just a shame it wasn’t Arteta’s name mentioned. The Tarquin headless would have been superb.

Would any manager be eager to succeed a legend and arguably the best manager of all time?
You want to replace the guy that replaces the legend

Most reliable reporter out there and it's met with suspicion on here because we are doing well.

Amazing how many people can function round here with the weight of their tin foil hats.
Yes because it would be bad news for the club so doubt they would leak to him or anyone especially when the team is fighting on 4 fronts.

Well he hasn't made it up. So whoever has told him he obviously trusts, because hes put his reputation on the line to discuss one of the biggest managerial changes in world football being potentially several months away.

Obviously it's really tough shoes to follow and they will be compared to Pep, hopefully who ever it is we give them time if things don't immediately go to plan but of all the potential managers I think Vinny would be the most welcome and supported by fans and club.

Keep an eye on Saudi and Pep.

The comment in the article about this being Pep's last season tallies with something I have heard recently. It isn't 100% decided but there is a possibility and stronger than at any other time during his time here that could leave at the end of this season.

I was told this in good faith and have no reason not to believe the info. Was told that Vinnie is a no chance at this moment in time, possibly doesn't want to be the one following Pep and is very happy at Bayern. But as we know a week is a long time in football.

I mean if they are going to ge compared to pep at least maresca ticks the box from a physical standpoint.

The club will have a plan just like when Pep arrived. I wouldn't put down as a coincidence that Luis Enrique's contract expires the same time as Pep's. Enrique has already said he will leave when his contract ends.
If Pep has decided to call it a day next year then i would certainly be happy with Enrique.

I've always wanted Luis Enrique even before he was cool but Id actually be happy with Enzo. He knows the club, seems a nice chap, Chelsea play decent stuff under him. He's navigated the 40 man crazy Chelsea squad reasonably well, got them into UCL and won a trophy. Premier League experience.

We could definitely do worse put it that way

Reputation ? He works for The Athletic. Journalism no longer has ethics

It’ll be an interesting time as following Pep would be impossible for most. We might even end up with a temporary manager so the next proper manager isn’t directly following Pep.

Hopefully that’s a while off though.

What does his employer have to do with his reputation?

This forum is desperate for Ornstein to report when it's a Haaland contract or signing but won't believe this, alrighty then.
