Will we win the league this season?

It's amazing how we get starved of the title after 1 season, felt huge disappointment last season, reality says we wont win it every year but have a chance again this season.
From what Pep said I think we may see Rodri on the bench for either Forest or Sunderland. I am pretty sure we are nursing him to be fit for the business end of the season. We have tougher games in Jan/Feb than Dec so his continued absence this month does make sense. If Nunes can fill in for 20-30 mins at DM that will be a huge help. Then hopefully we get Kovacic back in Feb/Mar also

A great result for Arsenal but not a very good performance. Everton were without N'Diaye and as you say that was a penalty. Arsenal were very lucky that they didn't give it.
Craig Burley on ESPN was astonished it wasn't given. You have to wonder.

After a dodgy start to the season (2 defeats in 1st 3 games) after a hangover from the World club championship, Pep has done very well to get us to this position,, (2nd in league - hunting down the Arse), Caraobo cup semis, and decent in Champs league, with this squad of players. Need Rodri back soon and could do with an aggressive midfield player (like Anderson, Wharton, Guehl).

I thought we were missing magic up front so suffered in defense. That seems to be getting sorted to be fair so I think we definitely are proper contenders now.

For the first time this season, I actually think we're the best team in the league now and potentially capable of winning it.

Arsenal were incredibly fortunate to win tonight, it's taken another set piece, penalty this time and also a huge amount of 'luck' for VAR to not give Everton a penalty.
We are certainly playing much better football than Arsenal who are still too negative. Luck will play its part of course.

I think City fans should be confident at the moment. We know City are not the finished article but we are young side that is improving. Cherki has added to City's game. Then there is Khusanov held back in reserve. Anyone who went to the Brentford game will have seen his potential in the 2nd half when he used his power and pace to eliminate any Brentford attack. It was hugely impressive. His time will come soon.

I have thought from the beginning of the season that we had a chance if we could fulfil our potential. Foden is back. Cherki is all we hoped he would be. Khusanov is coming good. The final piece in the jigsaw is Rodri. Let's hope that piece is still fully functional. Some day soon I hope Rodri will return, and this young City side will be ready to challenge for all the trophies.

We are in a privileged position to watch another of Pep's creations come into life. Citystein is beginning to walk, it needs one missing part to be complete.
Great post. If Rodri comes back I really think we could win it. We have everything else in place. We’ve even started a run of clean sheets. Let’s hope the home fans embrace next year and give the players the support they deserve.

We can win the league - it’s in our hands - Match Arse results all the way but best them at home and we are top.(I think we will better Arsenal results tho)
Don’t put too much reliance on Rodri coming back, That’s exactly what he is doing coming back (from injury) so I don’t expect ballon de or levels for 2025- 2026 remainder.
I also hope Villa maintain momentum and qualify for Europe early as don’t want them needing the points at the Etihad in May.

I might be an odd one out here, but when I've seen Villa play, they've looked more than decent to me. I might've been lucky and maybe seen them at their best, but against us I thought they looked very good and difficult to beat. I don't think teams that win as many games on the bounce as they've done are lucky - 1-0 is all you need in any game.

They won't win the league, I'm pretty confident of that, but I was a side like Spurs/Liverpool/Newcastle/Chelsea/United/Palace etc who might be looking for a Top 4 place, then Villa look like they might be difficult to shift. I think they've got some decent players in their team and in Rogers they've got someone who can win any game on his own.

I suspect that December/January will define their season though - they play United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Forest, Palace, Spurs, Everton and Newcastle :O if they can pick up a few points from those 6 pointers/derby then they could easily get a Top 4 spot.

Of course, having written all this, I'm quite expecting United to do them this afternoon now! :D

The confidence and swagger is definitely coming back which is great to see, especially from such a young group of players.

If we keep progressing over the next 6 weeks as we have done over the last 6, then weve got every chance of winning some of the major trophies.

After last season, its just great to see progression, and some optimism from what is a relatively new group of players; and if we can keep everyone relatively fit, and get Rodri and Kovacic back at some point, then we should have a positive season.

If we weren't to win it this season, id make us heavy favourites now to win it next season.

Those games won't define our season any more than four other randomly chosen games will

No chance Villa win the title, they'll struggle for top 4
You honestly think that the points return from those 4 games is of the same relevance as say Wolves, Lids, Burnley and Fulham? Pundits and Arsenal fans are hanging their hats on the fact that they've already negotiated all 4 of those away trips, so I'd say they are pivotal to our title challenge and to suggest otherwise is a bit daft really, but each to their own.

...and the Villa comment was tongue in cheek my friend.

I just mean that teams can pick up points where they’re not expected to and conversely drop points in games where they seemed to be dead certs so 3 points from wolves at home is ultimately just as important as a win at anfield.

For anyone interested here's a breakdown of results vs opponents compared to the same result last year. TLDR is City are +12 points on the same results last season and Arsenal are +10 points.

Wouldn't judge City based off last season though mate.

Probably better comparing the results from the 4 peat year.

Last season wasn't hard to improve on. It was our worst season since Pellegrini's last.

Yeah I get that but just to measure the season on season performance of 2 teams who will admit they weren't at it last season. If that trend continued at the current pace re results compared to last season City would finish the season on 98 points (I.e draw one match and win all the rest) and Arsenal on 96 (draw 3 and win the rest). Both tallies are unlikely but it does show the fixture by fixture improvement so far vs last season and also that it's highly likely something has to give.

It’s the ultimate cliche but I’m still in one game at a time mode, long way to go yet.

I think it’ll be a very straightforward T4 finish tho, already starting to see gaps open up.
