10 | Rayan Cherki - 2025/26

If we are honest, he was fairly crap for 89 minutes of that game but special players make the difference when the team and they're having poor games, foden does it, cherki is rapidly adding his name to that list.
I wouldn't say he was crap but I know where you're coming from.

This guy man.

24 appearances
1,032 minutes played
6 goals
9 assists

He's averaging a goal every 172 minutes.
An assist every 115 minutes.
And a goal or assist every 69 minutes.

This form over a whole season of 50 or so full 90s would get him 26 goals and 39 assists.

Just shows you all this needing to get used to the speed and physicality of English football is a load of bollocks and mostly used to excuse players.

You're either quality or you're not.
Disagree. Sure, if you are Messi level, it may not matter. But there is a level below that of fantastic players who are system and style dependent. For some of those guys they have to adapt.

He’s so much better than I thought he’d be, I have to hold my hands up o thought he’d be like a 21 year old Nasri, very hot an miss and a bit of a luxury but capable of brilliance.

He’s so much more mature than that, he’s really taken control of the team in the last month and become the main playmaker.

I never doubted his talent whilst watching him play for Lyon in Ligue 1 on the TV, and when he tore United apart.

How the fuck PSG, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and the top PL clubs beside City, etc, could see it, is beyond me.

Even in the French national team he stood out.

Even half of that would still be phenomenal ..

Wasn’t there rumours about his attitude or something like that,I don’t see anything just looks like a guy who wants to play football and learn from the best manager

I'm not saying there's no leeway, I just think it's an overused expression or excuse.

Rodri's position is a different kettle of fish.

For more attacking players, I think they either cut or or cant much sooner.
I get what you are saying - some players are just different gravy and can immediately hit the ground running, but...

David Silva's debut season wasn't especially impressive.
Neither were the debut seasons of Luis Suárez, Leroy Sané, Bernardo Silva or Robert Pires.
Riyad Mahrez didn't start pulling up trees for Leicester until his 3rd season, and he spent 6 months in the Championship. And then he took another season to adapt to playing at City when he moved here.
Thierry Henry only scored 1 goal in his first 12 Premier League games.
Edin Džeko didn't score in his first 10 Premier League games, and only managed 2 in 15 in his first season.
Jérémy Doku is another example. Didn't really hit his stride until this season (his third).

On the other hand, some players come in and smash it right away like Haaland, De Bruyne, Agüero, Salah, Torres, Zola, and now Cherki.

There are a lot of factors that go into whether a player fits in right away or not, and some players take a little bit of time to adapt.

He is going to be a superstar for us. Kev to Foden's Silva.
I can see Cherki as a mixture of Kev and Silva but imo Foden is neither... maybe Lampard or Gundogan in terms of being in the right place to score.

Foden will hugely benefit from Cherki imo. All the attacking players will.
