President Trump

I personally think he is a cause. Look at the shit stirrers that have caught the tiny imaginations of the chronically stupid over here. Farage- copycat clone. Tiny Tommy - clone. Marine Le Pen abroad - clone. He has infected everything by demonising foreigners and blaming all ills on immigrants, creating enemies amongst those who hold him account via the myth of calling journalists fake news, and managing to create his own narrative through the manipulation of social media. Nobody else has managed it, but others have followed the method. Eventually people will grow to understand they have been manipulated done over. It will be a process though
Marine Le Pen was an elected FN councillor in 1998. She had a clear anti-immigration policy long before Trump arrived on the political scene. She could be described as a clone - of her father - certainly not of Trump.

It looks like Zelensky, a man who actually cares about his own people, is the one chasing peace. Putin, a cold uncaring man, could not care less. None of the USA, NATO, the EU, Europe as a whole and even ourselves can hold their heads high on this one. Yes, we have avoided a potential nuclear war but seemingly by throwing Ukraine into the wolfs mouth. And now we are all looking at the wolf to see if he will release his victim from his jaws.
How have we avoided a nuclear war exactly?

When will American realise that not every country wants to live like Americans ?
Trump is a lunatic.
The worst thing that ever happen to the human race was religion. Been fighting and murdering each other for centuries over it.
Religion is necessary for a civilized society - without it you get Trump & Putin & Xi & Pol Pot & Hitler & Stalin etc

But again, "Are you saying we, the west, should stop interfering everywhere and just leave countries in conflict to it?".

i.e Do you want interfererence or not? If so, who chooses where to interfere, you, me, a Prime Minister, a President, a government, a referendum.
Simple answer would be the United Nations but that's subject to veto by bad actors.

Having done an academic study on the morality of tyrannicide (the old word for regime change) from medieval times I'd have to say
(a) the outcomes are not always good and
(b) a prince will only intervene to save an oppressed people if there is some advantage to the prince (I can find the exact quote later)

Obs it’s not happened, but curious as to why you think it may have done
Seriously? From the House of Commons Library.

"President Putin has increasingly used the threat of the Russian nuclear arsenal to pressurise the West over its military and diplomatic support for Ukraine following Russia’s invasion in February 2022"

Putin has threatened several times if red lines were crossed. Several red lines were crossed and were still here.

I don't think you have answered the question (I don't think I could either).

Would the world be better if we just left everyone to it?

Being brave on a forum is totally different to being brave in the real world surely. Our elected leaders have to decide whether FULLY supporting Ukraine militarily is worth the risk of Putin making good on those nuclear attack threats. Now I'm sure many of us think 73 yr old Putin is a bullshitter but would you take the risk?

Yes as he knows what the consequences would be and personally, I don't think the necessary chain of command would launch them

Putin: “Fire”
Response: “We need a meeting of the ‘Fire’ committee before we press the button.”
Putin: “ffs”

Missing the point.

The USA were technically interfering by means of USAID. They then engineered a situation where they almost certainly knew that animosity would turn to anger and ultimately lead to conflict, and then swooped in to fix the problem that they engineered in the first place.

Remember Halliburton in Iraq? Would it surprise you to learn Haliburton have major interests in Nigeria?

There's interfering, and there's 'interfering'.

Trouble is, in 1938 German churches were thriving and largely supporting Hitler. The Nazis had God on their side. I won’t mention Bishop Hudal and his organisation spiriting nazi war criminals to S. America. So civilised.
Much like those supporting Trump currently. Those who opposed the Nazis paid a high price - as might those protesting against the orange obscenity in the US before long.
