Marc Guehi | City strong contenders for transfer this month (p60)

Seems to be a thing with some of our wannabe hipster posters to call out Dias as being shit. He's not of course, been a brilliant signing but it's easier to let them crack on with their shite.
Yeah I don't think some posters really want to judge Dias on his ability and performances. As you say, it's the current "cool" thing to bash Ruben. A lot of it seems to come from his celebrity partner, I'm not sure why that's an issue (jealousy perhaps) but some have really changed their tune about Ruben since he got himself a girlfriend.

Think it works well having versatility.

Khusanov can cover RB and Nico OR CM. Nico might move to midfield next year.

Nunes
Khusanov
Guehi
Dias
Gvardiol
Reis
Nico OR
Ait-Nouri

That’s great in my opinion.
That's personally what I would go with as well.

Reis and Guehi in for Stones and Ake. Guehi also perfectly works as fullback cover where he becomes a wide CB in a back 3.

I'm not seeing many great options for attacking fullback.

Might as well get a great defensive fullback who can cover CB, and use Nunes and O Reilly inverting or as auxiliary midfielders if necessary.

I think the Semenyo links make this more logical with us as well.

Thought Khus was hurt?
He was on the bench Saturday. Stones wasn't.

You start typing him into a google search and literally one of the first hits is "John Stones injury".

He's one of the only people in the world who has a boot contract with Aircast
and gets a discount on bedroom furniture from Hill Rom.

Love the guy but enough's enough.

Good to see Tolm linking us was spot on with the Semenyo talk.

It makes sense let’s be honest especially with decent chatter of Ake leaving in Jan.

Just need to hope Liverpool don’t beat us to it, seems to be the biggest competition I’d say.

If Ake wants to go still not sure what the back up plan is.

If Ake wants to go, we probably don't have a back up. I can't see us stopping him if he really wants to go.
Khusanov and a re- incarnation of Stones will have to do.

True and would be good to see Mfuni or Braithwaite get the very limited minutes if need be. Dare I say it also but Phillips looked good at CB in that one pre season game before!!

TBH Stones could be slotted in to start every game then picks up a knock on the way from the dressing room to warm ups.

Our record with Stones in the last 20 months or so (since April 24) has been really bad. Can't tell whether it is a mere coincidence or he has regressed (physically), but he isn't as good as in the Treble season.

Let’s be honest the season after everyone’s legs had gone and we still were in for another treble until that penalty shoot out against RM.

I think we can’t really judge some players in the last couple of years we’ve constantly been underperforming

We won more points in 23/24 than in 22/23. It's Stones and Ake who regressed in 23/24 (and Pep benched them in the last months of that season). Note that 23/24 was Rodri's best season.

Tbh I think it is academic because he simply can't stay fit.

He must surely be moved on at the end of his contract because no club is realistically signing him with his injury record and the contract he is on.

Ruben is one of our leaders. Gives 110% every match (good or bad).

He knows what Pep wants and is one of the best communicators. That's invaluable and he's been a vital cog in our success.

A team player who makes the team better when he's in it. Anyone who has played football (or watched City since he joined) knows how crucial players like Ruben are.
He’s a leader

Love Ruben but he was naff last season and had a mixed bag the one before and it’s been a long road back to where he is now, which is somewhere close enough to his best.

Felt his leadership, which was the reason he got the nod over Laporte all that time ago, in the turmoil of our demise last season was sorely lacking.

Think he’s a defender who needs good players around him to cover his own flaws, which he now has with a couple pacy physical fullbacks and Gvardiol having moved to centre half.

Never felt like that’s been the case with Kompany, Laporte, Stones and so on but that might be rose tinted specs.

Certainly a difference between valid criticism and some of the shite he gets on here and I imagine social media though.

Rubens return to form I think is due to a change of goalkeeper ??

We should put in a bid for his twin at Inter. Bastoni would be be brilliant just for the name in a city shirt.

I can see the Gene Hunt Tifo as well.

The vice-captaincy bit makes me doubt the whole story. As if they'd be discussing him being a captain of a team he's never played for. What sort of Billy big bollocks would you have to be to think you could move from Palace to a multiple title-winning team and think you could be given the captaincy, even as a vice captain?
