Antoine Semenyo | Prefers to join City - Ornstein (p73)

Strange, because Marmoush is a better player.
He’s a very different player to Savinho, and Savinho is more potential. But the way we seem to be going Savinho is a better fit than Marmoush. I like Marmoush and would happy for him to stay, but don’t think there is a first team place for him,and think by the summer he’ll want to go and there will be offers for him.

Why ?

Give us some explanation behind your thinking.
Based on the way Pep had already been using Doku before he was hurt. Seemed to me he was looking to rotate 4 for 3 with Doku/Reijnders/Foden/Cherki and Savinho as the 2nd half sub for width/pace.

Sure, maybe Semenyo starts a game or two in Jan/Feb but after that, he's a sub like Savinho and he's competing with Marmoush in that space as well.

I just think it's a waste when they have bigger needs in central midfield and at center back.

I don't know. But based on Pep's affinity for smaller squads and they way the team have been operating in attack lately, Semenyo fills the same role as Savinho: coming off the bench in the second half to give more width and a pacey counter attack. I haven't watched much of Bournemouth but Semenyo's style doesn't seem to fit the way City are currently playing
So based on very little then.

Can you not see the difference between having 17 to 20 excellent players than can play multi positions & rotate between starting & sitting on the bench easily, 2 or 3 seasons ago to what we have now where you can almost name the starting 11 & when Pep tried to rest & rotate v Leverkusen it backfired.

I like Savinho & want him to succeed here but at the moment he's unlikely to come off the bench & change a game.

The chances of signing Andersen & Wharton in January are slim so signing a stopgap dm for £30m+ in January doesnt make much sense especially if Rodri has recovered fully from his hamstring injury

Hes not exactly going to starve is he Now stop being an idiot because my opinion is not the same as yours.

I never said he was nailed on to go to Bournemouth just that I could see why it might appeal to him

Your opinion is he might take a 50% wage cut to join Bournmouth.
My opinion is he is on 8 million pounds a year until June 2027. CITY want 21 million for him, even if it is 15 million, you believe Bournmouth will pay that for a 30 yr old with no sell on value.

Semenyo has a buy out clause , no need to sweeten anything.

I'm out.

A) Not sure but repeating the same question won't get a response from Pep.
B) Haaland is a better player than Marmoush who appears to be his direct competition.

I’m not asking Pep, I’m wondering if anyone else sees something in non-scoring non-assisting Savinho.

Yes but we need more than one goal scorer. Marmoush is good back up to Haaland.

You keep saying "they", who is this "they" you talk of ?

You're making my argument for me. Pep rotates when he absolute has to. He rotated practically the whole squad against Leverkusen and they played like shit. He's got 4 attacking mids he likes for 3 spots Doku, Reijnders, Cherki and Foden. I don't see Semenyo breaking into that rotation. That leaves coming on as a sub. Is he better than Savinho? Of course. But would I pay £65 million for a sub? Fuck no. Plus there's Bobb and Marmoush as well. Are they better than Semenyo? No. But adding him just adds to the logjam of players Pep doesn't trust.

And Rodri doesn't seem like he's coming back very soon. Has he even been available? Kovacic is out til at least February. You've got Nico and Bernardo in defensive midfield, that's it. If they need a sub/rotation player somewhere, its defensive midfield.

Not sure I’m reading this thread right but it seems like one poster has hallucinated a move for Ake to Bournemouth and now a few seem to think it’s a real thing.

Good news on Semenyo though, and despite the American fella voicing otherwise, I think he’ll play a big part for us.

Savinho, Doku and Bobb don’t have a lot of goals in them. Doku has his other strengths in creation but the other two offer nothing.

Marmoush will have the rest of the season to fight to justify his place, Bobb is finished and hopefully this move means we’ll see a bit less of Savinho.

So you think £4m would make a difference to Ake if it meant the difference between him making a final world cup.or not & why would West Ham offer him a better salary for the exact reasons you quoted

You keep mentioning Ake as part of the Semenyo deal, nowhere have I even mentioned that as you seem to be adding 2+2 and getting 5. Let me make this abundantly clear the 2 deals would be completely seperate

You do talk some shit. You are obviously not a City fan with your continual use of the word “they”!

You're not on your own as I think he'll be a great signing
