Antoine Semenyo | Prefers to join City - Ornstein (p73)

He adds some thing different, something we dont have with raw pace and power (outside of Haaland). he has the work ethic that Pep demands (see Peps recent comments on Sav).

Is he as technically gifted with the ball as say Foden or Cherki....no he is not (but not many are)....but he has attributes that they dont have....as said before he has real pace and power...so he adds something we dont have.

He can play either side and is a better goal scorer than ANY of our current wide players..

Is he a better dribbler than Doku...no he isnt (but then again who is) but he is a better goal scorer

We need options and different ways of playing. He gives teams something else to think about...he adds to our ability to play on the fast break which automatically puts teams on the back foot. He isnt going to be physically bullied like Sav and Bobb either.

and he adds the long throw as well - will Pep use this....we will see but the other attributes mentioned are way more important anyway...his physicality defensively is going to be very important as well

Yeah, that's what I'm getting at. He's a sub, at best in this squad. £65million for a bench player who isn't a great fit for the way they're currently playing. Seems like a waste. Seems like money that could be better spent to bolster their midfield and their backline.
Baring certain players......Rodri, Haaland and Donarumma...most other players will be rotated at some point so saying he is a sub is disingenious to start with.
Secondly, have you not noticed that we are playing in a different way this season...we are more direct and even play on the break at times....Semenyo adds to this. He has a lot more physicality that Bobb and Sav and is a better goal scorer than any of our wide players.

Same games he will play, some he wont....Id wager that he may play in the games where we are playing teams who have the ability to peg us back into our own half (like Arsenal at the Emirates did earlier this season).....he is defensively better than any of our wide players and better than Foden and Cherki as well in this respect.

65 games this season + Internationals for many.

Everyone will get plenty of starts and game time across four competitions.

He'll start on the bench like most new signings, and will have to earn his minutes. You would imagine Doku/Cherki will be the preferred wingers for now, but he could easily get in the team by say February if either of those 2 play poorly for a couple of games.

Would you class Cherki as a winger? Nominally, maybe. But he's as much a winger as I am!

He posts like a needy, attention seeking four year old half the time.

I’d be embarrassed for him, but he’s clearly one of these types who lives for the cheap thrill of any crumb of acknowledgement on social media - however derisive.
Not sure whether you want me to like this post or not!? ;-)
