The Album Review Club - *** Christmas Break Playlist (next album 7/1/26) ***

Happy New Year, Album Review members!

I listened to 15/16 of the playlist again today (that is available to me) and enjoyed most all of the songs (and yes, even the Country one!) with some really good new ones I hadn't heard. I also liked the Christmas themed ones, so well done. I'll put my thoughts together later on, but it really is a good one to enjoy.

Happy new year all.

Which song is not available to you? Presumably the same for Fog then.

Correct, probably for him too.

I mentioned it Last Christmas... I'm sure we both know that song on the playlist.

Merry Christmas one and all!

From a listening POV, I've very much enjoyed the playlist here (despite one track version chosen that doesn't show up in Spotify outside of the land of Stonehenge here in the US [but the 2025 remaster does]).
No biggie, we've made it this far without replacing the drummer.

You got mine wrong at least. I think several could be from foggy (roan, tap, pixies) which makes me think none of those will be

As it's on a Stax album your initial thinking is sound for my pick. However your logic falls over due to the fact that no sane person would pick anything other than Otis singing Merry Christmas Baby or Carla Thomas's Blue Christmas from that album. So well done to whoever framed me there.

Out of the songs listed I enjoyed Gloria very much even though I disagree with it's sentiments very much. I spent some time trying to think if I had heard it before and then wondered if it was a cover OR if there was a cover. The chorus was definitely familiar.

Song that made me smile most was Christmas in Atlantis. But my favourite was Hey by Pixies which I have enjoyed for a long time.

Sarah who?

Cool story bro…

Haha. Feel free, but don't say I didn't tell you!

I'm liking most of this list but the Chapelle Rowan is really grinding my gears, at one level it's really quite catchy but it's got such a clinical now let's do a country style effort that it could almost be AI.

I have a few gear grinders as you can imagine - second ‘half’ better than the first for me

There has definitely been some framing going on this round!

Rob's comfortably in the lead on the guessing.

(As the only participant, in case the joke needs explaining!)
Well, where is the fun in that?

Some of us have a winning streak to maintain.

We shall see...
  1. Patti Smith - Gloria - Saddleworth2
  2. Chapel Roan - The Giver –RobMCFC
  3. Spinal Tap - Big Bottom - homerdog
  4. DakhaBrakha - Monakh - Coatigan
  5. Mission of Burma - Academy Fight Song – Foggy
  6. Chase & Status - Baddadan (feat Irah, Flowdan, Trigga & Takura) - LGWIO
  7. Mark William Lewis - Tomorrow is Perfect – journolud
  8. Sarah McLachlan - River – threespires

  13. Wishbone Ash - Blowing Free – OB1
  14. Albert King - Santa Claus wants some Love – Out on blue 6
  15. Ryan Davis & the Roadhouse Band - New Threats From the Soul - bennyboy
  16. High Fade - Think About You - GornikDaze
Top 5 songs
  1. DakhaBrakha - Monakh, could not stop listening to, very compelling vocals and music
  2. Mission of Burma - Academy Fight Song, nice punkish song from the early 80s, never heard
  3. The Delines - Christmas in Atlantis, never tired of hearing this song, a new Christmas classic to add to my rotation, hilarious beats out Sarah McLachlan and Albert King, both I liked too
  4. Family - The Weaver's Answer, hidden gem from the past. I'm convinced Sadds nominated or OB1 finally got around to listening, but I've got them (wrongly?) pegged for others, and I'm probably wrong on one. Very Jethro Tull-like, probably Sadds, but I can't clone him for 2, can I?
  5. High Fade - Think About You, nice nomination, bass playing and hard driving rock
I enjoyed most all of the other songs too, especially the ones that made me laugh. ;-)
