Rock Evolution – The History of Rock & Roll - 1998 - (page 271)

Yep. Roddy Frame an excellent songwriter.

Edit. Except he didn't actually write that one!

Edit edit: Thanks for the nudge re artist, no idea if our transatlantic chaps will be familiar.
Had visions of B&W searching around for hours trying to find a song that doesn't exist and asking you to pick another one!!!
Just on a side note I've always found The Railway Children to sound like Aztec Camera.
Maybe a few years sooner and on Postcard they would have been more successful

“Somewhere in My Heart” was 1987 and it was in the coda of last year’s list.

Single was a hit in 88 but that would explain why I checked the playlist three times because I was convinced someone had already nominated it ! Age is a terrible thing lol.

Touche mon pote!

I'll be working on a Coda of some songs tonight, but I'll hold fire until tomorrow night to give any last requests where there's room. I don't like jumping the gun there.

And y'all know after which track where that starts too.

1988 Coda if you want more songs from the year. I tried to limit this to artists we mostly haven't heard from in the year in most cases.

“Love and Mercy “ – Brian Wilson
“I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)” – The Proclaimers
“One” – Metallica
“Eternal Flame” – The Bangles
“Tomorrow People” - Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers
“Every Rose Has Its Thorn” – Poison
“Chinese Bones” - Robyn Hitchcock & The Egyptians
“What's On Your Mind? (Pure Energy)” - Information Society
“Wild Thing” – Tone Loc
“Waiting Room” - Fugazi
“The Valley Road” – Bruce Hornsby and the Range
“Touch Me I'm Sick” – Mudhoney
“One Moment In Time” – Whitney Houston
“Don't Believe The Hype” – Public Enemy
“Don't Worry, Be Happy” – Bobby McFerrin
“Don't Know What You Got (Till It's Gone)” - Cinderella
“The Living Years” – Mike + The Mechanics

Last call for any last minute song selections if you still have any for 1988. I'm adding some songs onto the Coda tonight. I figured most are done, but just checking first.
I Still Dream - Richard Thompson
Can't Win - Richard Thompson
Side of the Road - Lucinda Williams

I saw Melissa Etheridge two nights on the run supporting Huey Lewis at the NEC in 1988. "Bring Me Some Water" was in my list for nomination but just ran out of spaces. Likewise Bruce Hornsby, who I also saw live for the 2nd time in 1988.

"Every Rose Has It's Thorn" is another great track from Poison.

I can't believe you left off the re-released 1988 SAW version of that antipodean poppet and all round disco queen Kylie's Locomotion!
Bloody hell. (I've put it on my version).

Apparently Especially For You was such a big hit with a long half-life worthy of it's noxiousness that SAW couldn't be arsed to release the later planned single(s) from whatever the album was.

I’d add Michelle Shocked: “Anchorage”
Beach Boys: “Kokomo”
Enya: “Orinoco Flow”

Sorry, but the Michelle Shocked version is not available in the US, but I've got them all added both to the main list by RandolphMABlue, Coda for Oob6, and 2 out of 3 of the above ain't bad.

I especially liked that Enya release I'd grow to very much appreciate in the '90s after our first born arrived and bedtime music was needed.

1988. Probably the worst year in the history of music. I scoured my record collection, my thoughts, the charts and other stuff on the internet for anything that I remember that floated my boat. Very slim pickings. But in the spirit of my hatred for this year of middle of the road rubbish I've checked with the coda first...and oh my God.

Let's start with the biggie...U fucking 2. Utter pile of stadium lite dross. What a band in the early 80's though before their bloat. I then noticed Copperhead Road. Fuck me, I've hated that song for years and I've just listened to it again. Come on, the people who liked this are supposed to be music fans for fucks sake. Dire.

Obviously someone was going to nominate the dirge that is Everyday Is Like Sunday. Moaning on and on and on and on and on...and that's just me...

Anyhoo...I found 4 songs! Yippee. I couldn't pick any Talk Talk as the album that came out this year is a one hit listen and not to be broken up. But even these are scraping the barrel.

Zodiac Mindwarp - Prime Mover

A bit of nonsense but a fun song. The rest of the album is awful though. One hit wonder!

Marc Almond - Tears Run Rings

Not a fan of his solo stuff per say but this will do.

Duran Duran - All She Wants Is

My nearly least favourite new romantic band with my nearly least favourite lead singer of all time, hi Bono, but at least this is different.

And last but not least...a semi decent song.

The Adventures - Broken Land

Beautiful piano. It nearly moves into Oirish at the beginning, but being from the northern bit I suppose that's allowed, before the piano kicks in and saves the whole thing.

I need a cleanse.
