I gave Gonzalez a chance when many said he wasn't good enough. I gave Nunes a chance when most threw him head first under the bus... everyone is singing both of their praises now.

Rico is simply a bridge too far for me.
Nunes has taken 3 seasons to finally start looking decent. Been very good this season but his first 2 were disastrous. We don’t have time / wiggle room for a similar signing again.

If we’re honest about Gonzalez, he’s not good enough to boss a PL midfield and wouldn’t have gotten within a mile of any of our previous squads. A poor signing imo.

I love Lewis’ attitude and heart and the fact he’s an academy product. But again, he’s nowhere near good enough for a team wanting to win leagues and other trophies. If City put him on the market tomorrow, there wouldn’t be a single top side who’d bat an eyelid. He’d end up at a bottom half side as a squad player or abroad.

he didn't, clueless going forward and overlapping.
Thought he did well defensively especially at Arsenal. Im not saying we shouldn't sign or dont need a RB, but he's better than Lewis there. He'd certainly have done a better job than Lewis yesterday. And if it comes to having to play one of them long term til the end of the season, I'd rather the lad who can at least defend over the one who can't defend or attack.

Again it doesn't make sense. Peps style is controlled possession, from what Brentford fans say Kaoyde is a transitional fullback. He's brilliant defensively but loves to attack in final third when Brentford counter. Same as Ait Nouri at Wolves he would get involved in counters that's his main strength.

If Peps style has been controlled possession death by one thousand passes, why are we bringing in attacking fullbacks that like to counter
Controlled yes, the same was with Walker

Somehow he made it work

I’d LOVE Fresneda this month mate but there is no rumours there and solid info seems that we want Kayode from Brentford. If we are serious about the rest of this season then we need one
Might aswell go after Arnau Martinez (10-15mil) or Givairo Read (25-30mil), they both are cheaper

Brentford and Sporting will ask for a lot

Recency bias is mad. Nico played as a one man midfield and bossed the likes of Dortmund, Madrid and Liverpool. He played a few bad games and all of a sudden he was a poor signing. He’s not a poor signing if you consider that he’s an 8 that was bought to deputise for Rodri. He’s done a very good job.

Given the horrendous injuries we’ve been sustaining, it makes sense to examine players’ injury records over multiple seasons and to determine whether they can cope with the physical demands of playing in England.

Any idea how Kayode has been mate?

He’s had two injuries in the last two season, sprain/knee, missing 8 and 5 games, respectively. He’s quite an orthodox fullback, for me, andhas a similar build and height to Ait-Nouri, so he wouldn’t add much height or solidity when defending set piece, cf Nunes and O’Reilly. Kayode has also picked up 5 bookings already this season, which is more than any other season.

Yeah as a stop gap, he can definitely cover there and be a wide RCB in possession, with the left back pushing up. It's basically how we were playing yesterday with Lewis pushing up and inverting.

If Nunes is capable of maintaining his trajectory, rather than buy an orthodox fullback, then we might be better having Reis and Khusanov deputise there, especially in terms of the squad and if we have questions over the fitness of Dias and Gvardiol.

indeed, I imagine in the current circumstances first thing we'll want to know about any new recruit is his injury history.

that didn't go so well did it?

Lewis inverting and Aké being left back? Nope, didn't go well, which is why I'm advocating different people doing it if Pep wanted to persist with a 3 1 6 style build up. Nunes has done it in possession as well - although I prefer him having licence to join the attack.

If Pep wants to build up with 2 at the back, Khus wouldn't be a good RB choice aa he is limited going forwards.
