AFCON 2025 | Final - Jan 18th, 19:00

Coverage has emerged of Moroccan players trying to take the Senegal goalkeeper's towel from the net before the penalty. As an indication of corruption they were then awarded the Fair Play trophy at the end of the tournament. just adding fuel to the fire.

Its on post #576

Getting the fair play award is not an indication of corruption...they just got the fewest yellow cards, which makes sense, they were on top of most games fairly comfortably and had home advantage.

So the fact that as the host nation they got the fewest yellow cards does not look a bit 'iffy'. Throughout the tournament there have been claims that refs have been lenient with Moroccan players whilst being over zealous with the opposition. This was also evident in the Final when a Moroccan player could have easily been sent off for 2 bad tackles but on neither occasion did he even get a card.
Again in the quarter-final they were fortunate with the non-award of 2 penalties and a red card.

I’ve got to admit, after turning on just before the Senegal team walked off I was totally against what they were doing. They’ve got some proper bad attitude/twats in their team so I presumed it was them just being slapped arse, spoilt brats that had taken it way too far. I just saw it as the modern ‘I want it all and I want it now society’ we are in today. But after a bit of research today on how they (Morocco) have been reffed, and the disgraceful stuff that went on off the pitch at last nights match and previous Morocco games, maybe we should be applauding them as someone who actually had the balls to stand up to the obvious rule bending/corruption in favour of the host nation. Dodgy as fuck that tournament the more I’ve seen of it today.

Both twats imo

They are 2 separate things. The refereeing in the final was suspect, the winning a FairPlay award isn’t on its own.

Similarly Senegal claiming their players got food poisoning could theoretically be a sign of something suspect, but it could also be nothing, and people are getting very carried away claiming it’s all linked.

You applaud them walking off because they got a bad refereeing decision but…they came back. They didn’t make a stand over principal, they threw a hissy fit, made a fool of themselves and 99% of the time they come back, Brahim scores the penalty and they lose.

Personally I don’t think the refereeing controversies would even crack a top 10 of unfair moments to happen in finals in the last 25 years.

Why did they walk off the pitch anyway and surely they should have been kicked out when they did walk off the pitch as they made it he guy wait 29 mins to take it .

100%. How can a team walk away for half an hour and the match just carries on as if nothing happened?

Morocco has embarrassed themselves this tournament, but so have Senegal. They won so they won’t care but the whole thing was a shambles that reflected really poorly on AFCON.
