Atmosphere Thread | 2025/26

I said this on the seat counters thread m8,,the football for the most part has been as you say turgid for the best part of 2 years ,its boring ,you can be having a chat to yer m8,,city could be around the centre circle look back 5 mins later and its back with our keeper ,it has gone dull very dull

It did get a bit better early season but has reverted back to snooze football again now. Low blocks don’t help but we are so vulnerable to the counter as shown last week, we just can’t push too many up. You can see why people are not rushing out to buy tickets at silly prices.

Theres nothing worse than a shit English atmosphere but there’s nothing better than a top English atmosphere.
Not for me I find that European atmosphere awful like I said it’s just the same from stat to finish you wouldn’t know if the team was 3-0 up or 3-0 down. Most in the “ultra” section don’t even watch the game.

Poor from both sets of fans today. I’m not sure we can use the match as an excuse as I thought there were some entertaining passages of play. The second goal came at a great time for the team but at a bad time for a lot of fans as many had left their seats for a half-time pint/pie/piss. Wolves fans are normally quite noisy but there wasn’t much coming from their end even when they showed a bit of fight in the second half. I know they’re bottom but they’ve been much improved lately so I thought their fans would be bang up for what was essentially a free hit for them plus there were plenty of them drinking in town earlier.

It was still better than the Everton game in October though!

City where dreadful no argument on that, however whay has happened to wolves away support?, historically very loud and big numbers. Today absolutely silent except 2 outings if football in a library, ironically.
To be fair to them they are absolutely rubbish, doomed to relegation and were a goal down after 6 minutes.

Although the group singing “Where were you when you were shit” outside the stadium probably win the award for the biggest hypocrites we’ve ever hosted. They’ve never had crowd average near ours when we’ve been in the same division and I can remember their support dwindling to tiny numbers when they went really shit.

Never understood the stupid chants of cheating bastards and where were you

Both sides were poor.

Personal opinion - me ranting.

It's shit because of the wankers that go but don't show any support.
Just after the non penalty something happened and I yelled out (to the referee) 'You bent bastard' I got a tap on the shoulder and a bloke asked me to watch my language! He had children with him.
It's a football match, it's where working class blokes go to enjoy a game, I bet his (grand) children know far more bad words than I do
They had sat there in silence, no vocal support, nothing. I say one so called bad word and I'm worried he'll report me and I'd be banned.
It ruined the first half for me, in the second half I fucked off and found another seat. I didn't even celebrate the 2nd goal that's how bad I felt.
It's shite because wankers want the opera, they don't want emotion.

I'm sick of it. On 90 minutes no fucker was left in the stadium and no doubt this fucker had gone as little Rupert was tired.
I'm wound up. If you are reading this. Fuck off and when you get there, fuck off again.

Saturday afternoon, 3pm, cold and dark, against the bottom club. It's actually ok to just go and watch a game, react to the action on the pitch, have a few pints, go home. The oppressive pressure to sing songs is getting a bit much. I love it when the crowd chants together, but I'm not really a singer. When the match is important and the game is exciting, the atmosphere takes care of itself.

We have a far bigger problem with the scourge of really early leavers, thousands and thousands every week. I wish they wouldn't bother coming at all to be honest. I get it that everyone can go home when they feel like it, but bloody hell it's absolutely chronic at the moment. Wasn't even this bad under Pearce when we only scored 1 him goal after Christmas.....maybe they didn't leave because they were afraid to miss a goal. It's cultural at this stage. On the champions league midweek nights it's much better, the tourists are mostly staying over, so in no hurry out of the ground. That's what we might need...more tourists to clap the team off.

A little vignette that perfectly encapsulates why many of us have stopped going to the match.

Well said that man.

Give us a decent transport infrastructure that doesn’t involved fighting to get on to a tram/train/bus with your kids or waiting 2 hrs to get off a car park and you will see the early leaving stop. Its purely to avoid the chaos of trying to get away from a stadium that has been consistently expanded but had no appropriate infrastructure improvement I'm convinced of it.

Unfortunately it’s the case that a lot of the people who would sing have been priced out and disillusioned with modern football or at least the experience of going to a match as a modern football fan. I know loads of people who don’t go anymore and were some of the most vociferous fans in the stadium at one point

It's still good at away games. The singing section of the ground doesn't seem to work that well for a lot of the home games though.

Didn’t do any of us any harm when we were taken to the football as eight year olds and heard every swear word in the English language ten times over with blokes throwing glass under the roof and letting the smashed glass rain over the away fans or pitched battles round the streets of Moss Side on the way out of the ground.

I actually thought it was all very exciting.

My Father used to say to me that I could join in with any chant with whatever words were used in them, as long as I didn’t use those words away from the football… and I still don’t swear in front of my Mother to this day.

August 1977
City 4 Norwich 0

My first experience of J Block, and (almost 13 years old) my first exposure to "wanker"" "shithouse" and ""Sit down son"

Absolutely loved it!

db, I'm still wound up about it and it's five to eleven.
What do the so called fans want ?
If 'Bastard' at a football match is wrong I'll stop going, (more likely I'll be banned) I wasn't violent, I didn't urge anyone to kill someone (the ref) I simply called the ref a bent bastard.
An atmosphere isn't about 1894 singing, it's about all of us showing passion, even if it's just clapping or shouting Come on City.

Did I mention I'm still wound up ?

I don’t go all the games but when I go I sing my heart out, I sing city songs all day at work I love the club, the fans aren’t the same anymore we’re pisspoor. Newcastle was okay in the cup but nobody seems bothered. Every Wembley trip is shite I’m thinking of not going and watching on tele.
