Atmosphere Thread | 2025/26

Get your point however on The old Kippax it was stand where the fuck you wanted so gangs of blues stood with each other.........That made the area louder and more mental. Not mixed in with tourists or sensitive supporters who don't like singing and swearing etc.

It was loads of loons packed together. All knew each other.

Rail seating was a good thing but nothing compared to turn up on the day, pay next to fuck all and stand with your mates going mental. Unless it was Arsenal and we were getting hammered or a poorly supported club who added fuck all. Even Maine Road could be a library.

In the old, old Kippax, there used to be hundreds of, if not 1000’s of fans for the big games, who would stand next to each other next to the away fans in the top left corner of the Kippax stand (facing the pitch) and sing. Most of the chants would start there and spread across the Kippax, left to right. A low roof also helped with the atmosphere.

yeah I was one of them............Debbie, Donald Francis and the cool cats, Pez, PB......all the old mobs.

City had loads of different mobs back then. All young.

Plenty of times infiltrated their away section too when you could simply pay cash on turnstiles.

No fucking about.

The Voice of the Etihad.

He’s got his own Instagram page and somebody films him whilst he is doing the player announcements, and after a player scores a goal. Then he does high 5’s, fist pumps, and celebrates his announcements afterwards. It’s pathetic.

Watch the videos if you can arsed?

Come back Hugh Ferris, all is forgiven...

Think I’m going to die of second hand embarrassment on Wednesday, I always do on champions league nights at home due to our atmosphere, pre game light show, top tiers waving phone lights, goals infront of the family stand getting a light ripple of applause, and finally 70% of the stadium gone by 88th minute.

Gala fans coming from probably the best atmosphere in Europe and they will come our place which will be a morgue. I hate champions league nights at the etihad which is so sad. Leverkusen atmosphere was an utter disgrace and Dortmund not much better. I’m just gonna zip up my coat and hide my face like Kenny on South Park. No even point trying to start a chant nobody will join in.

I wish i was more deaf everytime I hear that twat in the ground, why does he have to drag the words out ,it's so american and cringe.

I’m in good company then mate. :-)

You might have even pissed down my leg, not being able to get out of the packed Kippax before you needed a piss?

Wonderful and beautiful days mate, that I will always remember and cherish.

I feel so sorry for the youth of today and the by gone years who will never experience the freedom of the terraces then.

That’s his match day job.

To inform, to entertain, and to engage the fans.

He does it as he feels fit.

Coming from Palace with their Ultras and the atmosphere they make at Selhurst Park.
Only time I've been impressed by Palace's ultras was at the FA Cup final.

At Selhurst Park there's about 50 of them jumping around like bellends, the rest of the ground sits in complete silence.

Unfortunately it’s the case that a lot of the people who would sing have been priced out and disillusioned with modern football or at least the experience of going to a match as a modern football fan. I know loads of people who don’t go anymore and were some of the most vociferous fans in the stadium at one point
Same for me. I know lads who were more home+away than I was a few decades ago, who only go to early round FA Cup games now. If we draw any of the big teams in the early rounds and the prices are expensive, they don’t come at all in those seasons.

They don’t even do Wembley trips anymore. We used to fill a coach, then a minibus… last year’s FA Cup final was just three of us and I’ve done a number of recent semifinals on my own.

When you price a fan out, ban them for fuck all and disillusion them with daytripper and CBBC matchday experiences that they stop enjoying, it is very easy for them to find other things to do and they completely get out of the routine of going to the match or even thinking of getting tickets to a match.

It’s really sad what’s happened to our support. Especially the hard yards being behind this club in the dark years that so many put in for so long, to see them sat at home watching games now, hardly ever coming to games.

Our fanbase was our main marketing point years ago. The club should have treated it like it was sacrosanct.

I remember taking a dipper fan with me when we played the rags in the league cup semi final when tevez was playing for us.
Me dad was stuck abroad cos of the weather so my mate had the ticket.
Arm chair dipper never been to a game.
He couldn't believe when we went In mary ds every other person said hello to me.
Same walking to the ground.
In the que to get in.
In the concourse I bumped into lads I've known for years.
They all just know me as Buxton.

When we went to our seats I knew everyone on my row.
The row behind.
And in front.
He couldn't believe it.
I loved it the connection with the lads .
I went against spurs before Christmas.
I didn't know anyone before the game.
On the concourse maybe two or three lads from macc.
In the ground on our row.
Two maybe three.
The lads .
The old boys don't go now.
Sad really replaced by tic Tok .
Or just not welcome.
City was my world.
My one true love.
You are my angel.
You are my love.
You're man city .
Your the one I love ??.
Trouble is you don't love me anymore
I said something a few weeks ago in another thread about all the pubs that there used to be around the Etihad in the years after we first moved there; we’d go round loads of them before and after games over the course of a season and get to know loads of people who we’d see at games home+away and at early Wembley trips.

Now, most of the pubs have gone, most of the lads who used to sit around me in the ground have gone, most fans can only get tickets for the odd away games these days, people don’t go to Wembley anymore.

The fanbase feels a bit like it’s dying. The close-knit camaraderie, Mancunianness, fan culture, pub culture and atmosphere is certainly dying.

Just feels like a tourist destination rather than a special Manchester cultural institution.

Was terrible yesterday, some behind me in 016 tried their hardest but only about 20 fans joined in me being one of them. We need a boost from somewhere, Wednesday should be a lot better though
Yeah, chunk of around 50 lads at the back of [what I thought was 017, but you’ve mentioned 016 so maybe it was that block?] did try to sing throughout, but the rest of the singing section didn’t bother joining in with them… and when the singing section don’t bother, neither do the rest of the ground.

I’m going to be honest, I’m finding the atmosphere in the stadium to be very strange at the moment. Almost a depressed vibe where things just feel… ‘dead’.

I think a positive result in terms of the charges will help lift some of the feeling, but I also believe the ticket prices, loss of long term match goers & increase in tourists etc have taken a near critical toll in terms of the feeling that is in the ground now.

I think it’s eating away at the support a lot.

Even a negative result and punishment is at least a result and we can fuck people off from the club who need to be and put it behind us.

But a positive result will do wonders for our support… look what it did to us when the charges hit in February 2023; it brought us all together, fans, the team and Pep.

great post......sums up how many feel. We all know loads who have jacked it or have passed on.

Perhaps this North Stand new atmosphere group can turn things around if the club can sort cheap season tickets out.
