The Labour Government

What I would like to know is why there are millions of council tax unpaid here in Oldham. Labour have been in and out of power here for nearly 40 years, but mainly "in" during that time.
As someone who has always paid their CT, even when sodding skint, I'd like to understand why that has been allowed to happen.

Good luck trying to get to the bottom of that!!!

A line has been crossed here. I can take angry farmers, freezing pensioners, u turn after u turn, but this? Fuck Labour!!

I would expect that the vast majority of those who do not pay it cannot afford it. Councils will use debt collection agencies. They do make the effort. However, this will have limited impact and councils also have to consider the ethical side of chasing money from some of those who are skint.

Over the years, one of the big issues with Council Tax has been the way Council Tax Support is funded. Before 2013, the Government covered the full cost of Council Tax Support. When that system was scrapped and replaced with local Council Tax Support schemes, the funding was cut and then rolled into general council budgets (this cost my local council c£30m per year). That meant councils had to pick up a lot more of the bill themselves. As money got tighter, many councils reduced how much support people could get or made the rules stricter. Unsurprisingly, that’s put more pressure on low‑income households and likely played a part in collection rates dropping in some areas.

Check how many councillors are in arrears. Might be a bit of a clue there.

Wasn’t it that horrible bastard Eric Pickles who decimated government funding to the most deprived areas?

It is illegal to not pay whatever Council Tax you are required to pay isn't it?

Before the game starts, let this sink in for a moment: Apparently Starmer is concerned that Trump may effectively block the Chaos deal.

Why would anyone who was remotely patriotic, be concerned? He should be *delighted*, not concerned!

I get that he felt obliged to hand Chagos over due to the court’s advisory note. I don’t agree with that but I get it. But we should be handing it over reluctantly, not with glee. It should come as a relief if it is blocked.

This single act demonstrates Starmer is a traitor.
