Galatasaray (H) | CL | Post-Match Thread

I was in 105. If there were any Gala fans in my block, then they were well behaved. I saw loads of Gala in Manchester City centre during the day.

Those who missed the game missed a good night. One of the best this season.
I was expecting it to be a little fiesty tonight but our first shut them up. There was a small group sat near us that didn’t say a word until the Kurdish lads ran on the pitch and then they went crazy.
Forgetting the reputation they have I thought they were some of the best Euro away fans we’ve had for a while.

Thought we were rubbish again tbh overall. Lucky to have scraped through the automatic route. At 2-0 and needing more goals to be more certain of getting straight through, we just looked like we were happy to stick at 2, was nothing more than luck from other results that got us through. MASSIVE improvements needed next round otherwise it'll be an early exit. And the attendance, whether you blame the club, the players performances, the fans, or all of the above, it was pathetic and concerning. Sorry, I'm usually more positive but tonight wasn't really a night to get excited about
FFS Cheer up lad, i’m generally glass half full due to watching us from the 80’s and all we endured before the last 15 stretch of unbridled success, despite our recent ridiculous amount of success i’m still cautious and fear the worst, but trust me lad, if i’m positive and looking in the bright side then nobody should be negative, we’re on our way and we can, despite our concerns we can clear the deck, it’s all there in front of us mate.

Can someone please explain to me why we have to play Madrid again?
Answering self. Just AI the answer. FGS not ruddy Madrid again. Just why? I'm heartily sick of playing them every year. And compared to the other English teams the hardest possible draws. We really need to get 3/4 in this league phase next year. I hate this new format.

Got the result we needed, got the help we needed elsewhere and avoided 2 extra games in Feb that we needed like a hole in the head.

Doku superb until sadly getting injured, Khusa excellent at the back and shout out to Nico O'Reilly doing a job for the team as a makeshift hold. Great to see Gonzalez back too.
You hit the key point: Nico G back on the pitch, and NOR proved prior to that that he can do a shift in the Rodri role. For whatever reason, Rodri has not proved lately that he can fill the Rodri role :)

Pointless having the league phase then.
The whole point of finishing higher is that you get preferential draws.
But you don't necessarily. It depends how the other "seeded" clubs get on. We could get Real Madrid next round, and knowing our luck, probably will.

Seasons can turn on quirky results elsewhere like the Madrid one. Turning point for us? Khusanov gets better every game.

The crowd. Two of my sons have seasoncards in the Sth Stand (all in Cup comps) - me likewise in the East Stand. Mates of my sons are in the membership scheme and tried to buy seats next to my sons but the website showed those and surrounding seats to be sold. Those guys bought tickets elsewhere in the ground.

Two theories:

1. Our website is even worse than we thought?

2. Batches of tickets ending up in the wrong hands anticipating Galatasaray take up that didn't happen?

You could argue that not enough of our fans are interested in the Champions League, but we have had bigger crowds against nobody Champions League sides with nothing hanging on it. Tonight was no dead rubber, so it's strange to see the top tiers so bereft of fans where tickets are cheaper. I'm old guard (aged 65) but I love the Champions League - went to Istanbul - it's what we're all about now.

Maybe our Head of Ticket Marketing and Strategy will be called in for a one-to-one performance chat with Khaldoon in the morning.......... The new stand - maybe we have a clever plan to fill it.........

Semenyo and Guehi - two incredible signings that will improve us.

Daft twat, once we scored we weren’t out of top eight all night and at one stage we were fourth.
To be honest it was a lot closer than I would have liked. Real Madrid were losing 2-3 but having a right go at Benfica in the closing stages, well after our match had finished. If they had equalised they would have put us out of the top 8.

For those who don't know, as it turned out they got nothing from a late corner in the last minute, got a second player sent off and Benfica went up the other end and scored with the last kick off the game. In fact it was a header scored by their keeper as they threw everybody forward for the free kick. That goal out then into the play offs. Proper late drama.

I felt very comfortable watching our match, then switched over to the RM match at the end and I was a nervous wreck for 5 minutes. They played something like 9 minutes injury time.

At one point 6 of the 10 outfield players were left footed and it meant we kep checking back inside and not being able to advance up the pitch.

Doesn’t take a genius too see we’re miles away from the centurions and treble teams.
Sick of hearing that last sentence now. So is everybody else. Only Arsenal look closer to doing anything like that but they haven't learnt how to place it and I think they'll burn themselves out before the end of the season, if they don't bottle it first.

First of all I love Cherki.
Imagine if he could perform to his high standards in both halves of a football match.
Khusanov is our new Zabba but with Walkers pace.
Hope he doesn't get dropped when we get our full set of defenders back.
I've been raving about Khus since we signed him and everybody thinks I'm an idiot. Look at how good he was prior to signing him and it becomes obvious why we did. He'll become our best ever defender IF he keeps his place.

Cherki will continue to get better too as will the other signings and I think we have a really bright future that could emulate the treble winners.

We're still 2nd in the league, just 4 points off the pace, last 16 of the CL, close to reaching the final of Carabou and should easily reach the next round of the FAC so we're really not a million miles away despite not being anywhere near full strength.

Sell the whole club!! Fire Pep! Oh wait we won, one week later it's not looking so bad. I think sometimes it's good to step back and evaluate our performances more objectively rather than calling for everyone heads at the club when we hit a bad patch. I believe the club is good enough for top 4 and may win one of the domestic cups.

Nico O’R is so talented, he is not a makeshift anything. I expect he’s decent goalie. A world class star in the making.

Becoming a real bore playing Real every season, if we do draw them again
