Atmosphere Thread | 2025/26

I posted something similar earlier today. We have an image problem. We are stuck in a "doom loop" where the attendances and atmosphere are dropping off and making this worse. I've posted many times before that our PR is all wrong too.

We tried playing nice guy to the gutter press and look where it's got the club

There is no doubt in my mind why Liverpool, United, Arsenal , Barcelona etc are full and we not.
Anfield is not full of local Liverpool supportes. Its turist and not all of them are die hard Liverpool supportes.

I live in Iceland and I know that the same story goes for Norway and Sweden, Danmark and other europen countries.
tourist come all year arond to Manchester, London and Liverpool. I see ad every day "go to UK and see a football match ", the only teams that get mention in those adds are Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal sometime Chelsea.
Go experiance the atmosphere at Anfield drink it in.

Manchester City is painted a soulless club with no atmosphere a cheats and plastic with half empty stadium.

This has been hammered into people for 15 years , in podcasts, in news and everywere.
For the tourist who are not all in like we are and we have to admit they are the ones who are filling , Anfield and Old Trafford. They see it like going to the movies or theater they read the "review" going to Etihad and it is not good read.

We all know how the Etihad can be as good as any ground in the world for the right games, I was at Etihad for the Aquero moment and I know that not a single Liverpool fan has ever experiance anything like it.

But others dont know that .

The media,#115 and other things has hurt us realy bad and is the main reason why Etihad is not always full.

I know this for a fact I know how City are talked about , I know that people non City fans dont want to go to a City match because they think that its no fun, But I know non Liverpool fan want to go to Anfield because they have been told its such a experiance nothing like it.

City is also to blame, they unlike others clubs we are competing with have no PR nothing.
They dont care if there are empty seats, Liverpool PR hides it when there are empty seats at Anfield wich happenes.
So true. There is no doubt that the smear campaign orchestrated by our commercial rivals has slowed the growth of our fanbase. It has been a deliberate campaign by LFC and MUFC to trash our reputation for the last decade and it has worked. The club have been too passive and have allowed it to happen so it is essentially self inflicted.

If the media sucked us off the last 10-15 years maybe we would have acquired more fans! The pure vile negativity narrative of our club through all media last ten years since CAS is the reason! Every positive we do it’s always followed up with a line of negativity 115 and those who made it 115 not 8/9 new what they were doing!
Spot on

Knew there was a lot of empty seats but didn't think it was 20,000! Says 35k on other websites and apps too, so must be the official attendance then.
About 15k down on ‘normal’ CL crowds, if that 35k is correct. We usually get around 50-51k due to segregation. I reckon about 42k last night? Good atmosphere though considering.
For comparison, Arsenal had over 10,000 missing last night

Not worried about our capacity going up to 61k because then big premier games will sell out the important knock out champs games will sell out! Some games the attendance will be low especially in midweek games! Everything for fans around a night game is also a reason.. it’s what it is! Barcelona had 44k last night..

The current capacity of the Camp Nou isjust over 45,000. The stadium is under development, so it was over 95% full.

"It is what it is"... Yes, at the Etihad, a shitshow.

No it will make money. It’s an upgraded fanzone, hotel, shopping experience and museum with conference facilities. And we’ll start hosting more internationals and UEFA finals due to the facilities. Then there’s the concerts.

It might take time to take hold on the stadium bowl side but it will.

City matches not a priority then...

It's a white elephant.

My guess was 40-42K too. There would have been lots more there if it wasn't for the ticketing restrictions. People are slamming the club for these restrictions but also they'd have been the same people slamming them if the home end was full of balloning Gala fans like Old Trafford was.

There were plenty of Gala fans in the home ends. The camera phone lights proved that. There wasn’t any real trouble because City won and Gala didn’t score, thankfully. If Gala had scored and beaten City like they beat United, there would have been hundreds, probably more, Gala fans celebrating the goals and win in the home ends. Bar the documented incidents, City fans and the club got off very lightly last night. It could have been a lot worse.

I just do not get the North Stand extension, they will only fill it about 5 times a season?

Crazy.
It offers integrated leisure facilities for the co-op, makes that part of Manchester and entertainment hub for live concerts, potential things like UFC and WWE that Silverlake have a stake in, and is removed from the FFP stuff (I think). Plus will sell out for cat A games and CL games, add a few thousand more season cards. The ground is 95%+ full for most games, there's loads of space to grow into. It's a no brainer, they're not put off by a few empty seats in throwaway cup games.

This did happen once before, can’t remember the tie, I think it was the first group stage match a few years ago but the opponent escapes me. It was reported at 35k in some quarters but it was easily 45k. I thought that was odd, but there’s no escaping it, it was a piss poor attendance. I was trying to work out in my head if you could have closed the East and West tier three and filled the rest of the gaps - I think you easily could have. I think the capacity of those are 6,000 each. Some of South Stand upper probably still wouldn’t have been filled so 40k at the absolute maximum was there IMO.
Leipzig… the initial figures were much lower than the Mail reportveJrdilfRLOR0w6DfJDgCw.jpeg

That's not what I think we should have been doing. I think we should have used Guerilla Marketing techniques on social media to counteract the tidal wave of lies that surround the club.

That "tidal wave of lies" has successfully convinced virtually every non-City football 'fan' that we were formed out of plastic in 2008 by glory seeking cheating a***s.

It's in the national and international psyche. There's an entire generation of kids who only know us as Manchester Cheaty. They're never going to be City fans whatever the club does.

A multi billionaire owner who bent over backwards to recreate Barcelona here in Manchester employing Soriano and Bergiristain to 'set the stage' for the world's greatest coach;; with finances available for him to sign 'Galactico' standard players.

I'd honestly assume that some 15% to 20% of fans actually attending games at the Etihad are only there because of Pep Guardiola and, to a lesser extent, Erling Haaland.

As for the all-important (to Soriano and Co) City social media following, I'd guess that at at least 75% of them are following Pep rather than the club.

I said when we were taken over that we should be careful what we wished for. The game has changed beyond belief. We're ready and geared up for the next level of the game... whatever version of a Super League is to come.

The City Group is ready. They've created the ultimate 'plastic club', ready to rake in corporate money.

Traditional fans are, quite literally, a dying breed. We're witnessing the last knockings of local football at top level. The City Group / ADUG have sold our soul. It's not our club any more... it's just the name we're hanging on to.
