Seat Counters 25/26

Right, so what we thinking for Newcastle then? Pay day tomorrow for most, the club has opened up to all general members who were members before December and have bought a ticket before. Step in the right direction at least.

Still hundreds on level 0 and level 3 taken offline so looking similar crowd to last night. We’ll need a big increase next few days for it to be a decent crowd.

Local match going (even going occasionally) fanbase just hasn't grown as the older lot (me) have aged out and been everywhere and seen it all.
Club seemingly not bothered or haven't considered how this has happened.
And we're not alone, Spurs and Chelsea having swathes of empty seats for a couple of games this season...
We'll never have a deep local & national fanbase like United or Liverpool (and I don't want us to). But we've missed a trick not getting gtr MCR younger fans consistently through the door.

Used to go to all the Champions League matches but don't like the new format.

No jeopardy in the early matches and last night most people in the stadiums were just looking at their phones trying to figure what was going on. That is not a good matchday experience.

Also combination of ridiculous ticket prices and a poor atmosphere with increasing number of daytrippers is putting a lot of people off.

Club need to wake up.
Interesting, I must admit, I hate 2 legged games.

2 legged European ties with a 2 or sometimes 3 week break in between do my head in.

I'd go as far to say I wouldn't mind a second mini group of say 3 games to determine the 4 semi finalists.

Higher you finish = 2 home games in the mini group for example.

Is that actually true though...as many have stated on here, our average attendances have never been higher and had 52,000 at the weekend for a game against bottom of the league so there is obviously growth from somewhere....even 35,000 last night was seen as a very good attendance in the later days Maine Road era (1990-2003)

Yeah it's grown somewhat....but considering our success I don't think anywhere near what I expected.
Dunno if you were there last night but that 35k wasn't exactly 35k City fans either..... Though all the CL games generally are just not well attended by our normal ST holder fans

This thread has morphed into an echo chamber with the same posters making the same points based mainly on their own anecdotal evidence

My own theory (and I might be way off the mark) is that a large proportion of City's support fall into two categories:

1/ 55+ and their kids (who were never given a choice)

2/ Young families and supporters born after 2000

The traditional PL support has increased and will continue to increase
However, for completely different reasons both demographics are less interested in midweek matches

I don’t believe it was 35k. The bbc did this during the treble season, threw out a random attendance figure that was impossible given what parts of the ground were occupied and it did the rounds with other media outlets, with Rags laughing on social media.

I think the BBC said 38,000 then and The Mail later reported 45,000, that everyone who went said was more accurate.

Sure it was against Leipzig but could be wrong.

I agree. The obsession with attendances is unreal but a lot of it is driven by social media no mark fans of the red mafia who've never even seen their "own " team play. We were getting crowds below 20000 in the 80s eg the 19500 for the 10-1 v Huddersfield ( I was there ).

Last night was like the Chelsea at home Friday night game, all those years ago, when many thousands of Blues were scared off by MUEN headline saying don’t go to the game.

Credit to the team and the fans who got behind the lads. It was a tremendous win and making the top 8 was no mean feet after the shambles of Bodo. I’m just happy to have been there.

Credit to City for maintaining the safety of fans as far as they we able to. We had loads of empty seats but it at least the ground didn’t get renamed Little Istanbul like happened to the rags. Gala received tremendous vocal support from the South Stand and their fans dotted around d parts of the ground were largely respectful

Our young Blue team can hold our heads up high. For once, the attendance wasn’t all that important compared with the fantastic win and the few young families that attended going home safely.

Hopefully, more of those obsessed with empty seats will attend more home games and call for the overhaul of the industrial scale points whoring system where people join the cup schemes just for the ticket points.

Sympathy for Blues who could t afford the game but I know more Blues who missed the match because of expensive foreign holidays. Good luck to them.

That said, City really need to do some amnesty and stop banning fans for misdemeanours and who have been acquitted of more serious charges.
Credit to City for keeping their fans safe you say.
Ask the city fans below the away fans where several fireworks and bottles were launched at them.

Yes and they shouldn’t have happened and the culprit should be arrested, but compare that with two Leeds fans being killed by Gala fans. Also compare the cuts and bruises with the young girl being maimed by bin dippers.

Btw I went to the game with the intention of sticking up for fellow Blues if it kicked off. What about you? It was relatively peaceful and the majority of Gala fans were respectful.

Most of the diehards were there last night. Obviously, there was a big Gala following too. There are too many games with the expanded Champs League and we are still in all 4 competitions. We’ve also had several home games close together and Gala have a reputation.

The number of British Asian football fans at our Champs League games seems to have dwindled over the last year. They might feel more welcome at Anfield but I am not sure if it’s the same at the swamp since the rags aren’t in Europe

so the club just think that general members are all sat waiting on the off chance for the opportunity to buy a ticket 5 days before the game. If this is true they are more stupid than i first thought.
