Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

I'm not Pep out, absolutely far from it but I do think the football is really dull. We've got so much quality within the squad yet we play with zero intensity. We don't flood the opposition box and we don't take risks.

Watching us pass the ball sideways isn't exciting. It's possession for the sake of possession.
Yes there is quality within the squad but are we really going to say that for our midfield?

I think you're not seeing things since you're too close.
But look at it another way.

There's no Rags without Busby or Fergie.
There's no Dippers without Shankly, Paisley, Fagan & Daglish.

Whether we like it or not.. it is Guardiola's City now and will stay that way until another manager wins 6 EPL titles and 1 treble - which will be very large shoes to fill for anyone coming in.

The moment Pep leaves.. media will hit us with - They're nothing without Guardiola!

And honestly they'd be right.. we had what 1 CL semi final appearance without him in 100+ years?
We need to do everything we can to distance ourself from Guardiola once he leaves.

If we don't we'll end up like the rags.

Exactly, and I'm just wondering if Pep Leijnders wants us to play a more expansive style but Pep G is telling him no. Something isn't right with our play now transition or not, it all feels rather odd

The Liverpool managers you mentioned all followed each other. Isn't that the point some people are trying to make, that it's not a death knell for the club when pep leaves.

They had succession planning.. manager to assistant or manager to player.

When you replace with someone from outside.. sometimes players think they know more than the manager especially if they have won more.. like what happened with Rags and Moyes.

That's why I'm not convinced someone like De Zerbi or Xabi Alonzo will be a good fit.

But Gundogan or Rodri as managers might be more of a natural progression. Maybe even Lijnders if the players respect him behind the scenes.

I’m on the fence with Pep atm.

The football has become boring.

Slow, sideways, backwards, regimented, etc.

If Pep decided to step down as City manager at the end of the season and Vincent Kompany was made manager, I wouldn’t mind.

I think it would give our support a huge boost, which has been, and is still dropping off.

I will always love Pep and thank him for what he has done for the club, and the trophies he has won for the club, but it’s becoming clear his time at City is coming to an end.

Nobody want's Pep from the treble, 4 in a row, Centurions, to leave, the question is do we still have that Pep, I know there are question marks over 80% of the squad and we weren't facing the corrupt PL VAR to this insane level

Scott Carson reckons 4 or 5 more years I saw.

I think it's 2 or 3 personally.

Pep needs to tell everyone connected to the club and the fans whether he’s staying or going

4 more year of pep would be immense.

He needs to make a few changes and this whole mess would be over.

Can’t blame the stubborn git for not wanting to change as his approach beats most teams but teams have figured it out and he needs to find a solution. I hope he can and we look back at this shit period as a new dawn.

His passionate defence of the club during 115 is more than enough for me never mind winning anything. I just don’t want to see him struggle like he seemingly is doing over the last 2 seasons.

We all love you baldy. Anyway, back to sideways passing and getting pressed… -:)

We were always going to be challengers, quite simply because the standard of 16 of the 19 clubs in the PL is awful. We were no great shakes last season and still came third, only 3 points behind Arsenal.

Even the rags have one foot in next year's CL... That's how poor the PL is.

We could probably sleepwalk for the rest of the season and still end up in the top 4.

Is this the PL where 5 clubs finished in the top 8 of the CL league phase? And where the team in 17th place currently has 26 points from 24 games and so is on course for the mythical 40 points for the first time in 10 years - is it that PL you mean where the 'standard of 16 of the 19 clubs in the PL is awful'?

It’s more competitive because other clubs in Europe are struggling financially. Spanish clubs have no money and German clubs sell all their best players after one good season.
The PL is more competitive because the mid table teams are better and the top teams have gotten worse. Arsenal are nothing special this season but will win the league at a canter because we are more inconsistent.

Good post but don’t agree with some of that as yes pep has done great things and he will be our greatest manager but we are the best run club in the world and the last 3 managers have all won titles and I think the next one will aswell as he will be backed to the hilt and hopefully we will become a fast transition team who will be able to use our fast direct striker .

Talk about forcing a narrative, it's hard to reach a semi final of a competition you dont even play in. We'd only played in the CL for 5 seasons before Pep arrived.

To suggest 'theres no city' when Pep leaves is absolutely ridiculous.
