Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

said it 100 pages or so

For like for like and proven record we go for Enrique.

For good player management, tactical adaptability and proven record but a left field choice for most because of where he is working but Simione Inzaghi turned a failing Inter into title winners and champions league finalists, plus is highly regarded amongst his players.

For taking a chance on a younger manager and letting them build their own legacy we go for Vinny, Alosno or Fabregas.

Maresca, Arteta (I know but people suggest it) Glassner and the like I don't think will inspire

Can I put something out there, what if Pep signed the extension because the manager City and Pep wants to take over from him wasn't available at that time? Or the manager market at the time was bare so instead of rushing the decision Pep signed the extension to give the club time. Look at the managers available when he signed the extension there wasn't really a good market opportunity.

If we go by Tolmie he came out and said that Pep would have left with Txiki. Right now coming into the summer the market for managers is at the highest its been in a long time.

Maresca
Alonso
Fabregas wants a new opportunity and said he couldn't say no to us or Barca
Hansi Flick not happy at Barca
Enrique looks to be leaving PSG

There's wide selection now of elite / up and coming elite managers. City and Pep now have a wide selection to choose from. I think the main one there is Alonso, I say that as reading up he's been to the training ground a couple of time to talk to Pep. Most recently in 2025 with his training staff which speculated him taking over.

He's now available with no competition unless Dippers sack slot, its an opportunity that may not be available to City if we don't act.

What's this nonsense I heard yesterday that apparently Maresca fell out with the Chelsea board because he told them he was talking to us about replacing Pep?

If we go for Maresca, I am sorry, but that sends us backwards not forwards if he is to replace Pep.

City are never hiring Maresca. He's a really good coach, but he will be in a job this summer and Pep will still be City manager.

I'm genuinely not worried who his successor is. The only guarantee is that, like Pep, they'll eventually walk away many millions of pounds in their pocket.

Personally, I'd like to see Maresca get the job.

We won titles and trophies with two other managers and installing another one in the hot seat shouldn't change us that much, in fact it might make us a little but more interesting to watch.

Interesting time for BM

Interesting is one way of describing it ;)

If you take a step back from all the media generated noise, the truth about this summer is in front of everyone's eyes. Pep and the club decided together that he would undertake a rebuild of the team, knowing that that would take a minimum of 2 seasons. Hence his two season extension. Anyone who thinks Pep is just going to walk away doesn't really know or understand Pep.

Yeah, he's defo lying to the Chelsea board for whatever reason. I doubt our board is that daft, at best he'd be like 10th choice in a long shortlist.

Anyone else get the feeling all is not well with Pep off the field?
Think he's reaching an age where he's aware of how much / little time he has left. I remember him saying a few years ago that he'd have to give up at 60 before he did himself in, lol. Since he joined City his kids have grown up, him and his wife have separated, his mum's died and his dad has grown much older, he's needed quite major back surgery, and he's reached the top of the game again in 2023. Even people like Pep can lose that hunger after a time.

If Guardiola had lost his hunger would never in a million years have signed a two year extension last season. He would have left last summer. He's always said that he would leave when he felt he was done or when the club sacked him. You don't decide to be central to a squad's rebuild if you're not hungry to do it.

I'm not Pep out, I don't think he's done yet. That said, Alonso would be interesting. Hilarious even, considering how much he is touted to join Liverpool.

Personally, I'd love Flick to replace Pep. He's older than Pep though, and I don't know much of a consideration age is for the club.

For pragmatism and a steady head, I would go with Flick.

Enrique obviously is the closest like for like replacement to Pep but if anyone thinks Pep is crazy and sometimes irrational, then God help us if we get Enrique, he is Pep on steroids.

Yep, this is where I'm landing. Inzaghi was on my wishlist last season if Pep left. We're set up to be tough defensively, compact in the middle, and powerful on the break now. Whether he's up to the demands of a high stakes European job is maybe a doubt hanging over him. You wonder if he lost his spark when Inter got hammered by PSG and he immediately checked out to Saudi.

My ideal candidate is Enrique. A fantastic manager who took Barca to different heights after Pep left. He steadied the ship fast and got them playing top quality stuff. That team that won the Champions League in 2015 was great to watch as well, as was his PSG side last year. But he's contracted until 2027 there and would take a sizeable amount of cash to land.
Inzaghi would fit this team like a glove. If he would like to play with 3 CB, we are currently flush with them (Dias-Gvardiol-Khus-Reis-Guehi), RAN and Nunes ideal wingbacks. Players like Cherki,Haaland, Doku, Semenyo, Marmoush all suited to playing on the counter/transitions.

Also love the heart on sleeve passion of an italian ala Bobby Mancini

Whether it’s a coaching issue or something else, the fact that it hasn’t been resolved is poor. It’s been going on for the whole season.

This is what I come back to even after 48 hrs of that shambles show.
We have to take into account our opposition in this dismal run in 2026. No way we should concede 2 goals and dont get the third goal with their makeshift backline.
When the players are good enough it’s logical to ask the coach why is the team conceding in such a way.

Posters are rightly calling for patience because Pep has transformed the face of this great club but I would still want to know whether we will ever get the treble centurion season Pep back ?
If not shouldn’t it make more sense to find an alternative.
I don’t have the answer but the club would and should have an answer to this question!
