Retirement....is it all it's cracked up to be ?

I met a friend of mine the other day out shopping with his wife he said he dosnt reguard himself as retired but "under new management" looking at his wife

I really couldn’t think of anything worse than going shopping with the wife.

I see all these blokes traipsing round Marks and Spencer’s at Gemini every time I go looking miserable and yet not having the bollocks to say I don’t want to do that. Mine wouldn't even bother asking as she knows what the answer would be.

Question for you ,did you think you were going to be as busy and on the go as much when you finished ?
It's come as a total shock to me I thought it would be chilling sitting about how wrong was I ,I've swapped a dickhead team leader for a 18 month old dictator who carnt put 2 words together but completely controls me :+)
Well I have two schools runs dog walking bit of stuff around the house and maybe an hour or two watching something during the day then it’s done!

Spent half the day revising, yet again, my memoirs then made a batch of fish cakes for tonight and future freezing.

Is it worth it. I suppose it depends on what job you were doing beforehand, what you want to do in retirement and most importantly, having enough money to do it.

I retired 6 weeks ago and tbf I wasn't looking forward to it...basically I was talking to a client a few months ago and mentioned maybe selling up in the future..... 4 weeks later I'd sold the business.....it lasted 6 weeks. I'm sick and tired of the wife finding jobs that she wants doing and obviously I'm the shmuck who's going to do them, pruning the hedges, tip runs, showing what needs decorating, fixing the gate, washing and vaccing the cars, listening to second hand prattle from the girls who do her nails, the hair dresser and the foot lady, all of which I have absolutely no interest in whatsoever, the dogs are the most well walked dogs in the area and ...........I start my first lawn mowing job tomorrow, happy days.

I love it, and it was a great decision to retire a little early.

Initially I did wonder if I would have issues because I’m not one to sit around and watch TV during the day, unless it’s something I particularly want to watch, but that hasn’t been the case.

Love having the time to do what I want, when I want and in my own time.

Add into the mix a couple of holidays a year and I wonder sometimes, how I managed to fit work in.
Boredom has never been an issue.

Tinkerbelle has just cut back to 3 days a week, so I’m expecting some serious nudging on the horizon. :)

A bloke I know is in this scenario, only about 61 or 62. Had his own business set up years ago by him and his Dad. Sadly the Dad had been ill in retirement and passed away, at the same time so did his father in law. Both reasonably well off so houses and estates gave him an his wife tidy inheritances. Immediately booked a nice holiday and on return his wife handed in her notice and told him she was retiring and he should too.
Discussions with his accountant about closing the business meant it was best to do it for the end of the financial year in March.
So it was all over and done with in about 3 months. he's also "got a list" he's been given - and he's the type will enjoy doing the work. BUT, he was rushed into it and when he told me the list, smiling and jokey, I know I could sense pain in his voice. I hate "odd jobs" and even for me it would be a few weeks - 2 months tops. What then? There was no plan, no discussions and you can't be on holiday all the time.

take up golf or preferably fishing :-)

Golf, seems to be rather dangerous, ive known a fair number of older people who've taken their last swing out on the fairways and ended 6 under.
One of my best friends went fishing and never made it back. There is a time for all of us and when I reach it I would prefer to go doing something I love. :-)
