45 | Abdukodir Khusanov - 2025/26

Seeing some of the prices both Chelsea and Liverpool are paying for young CBs from the French league, getting him in last year for the price we did was a masterclass from the club.
Liverpool have just paid €72 million (€60 million + €12 million) for Jérémy Jacquet, a 20-year-old player who has barely one season in Ligue 1 (36 matches) with Rennes. City paid the same price of €72 million, but for two players (Khusanov for €40 million and Reis for €32 million).

Rennes has the best talents in ligue 1 so that would be included into the price - let alone that the Rennes owner is rich asf and doesn’t care about money. Stats wise he is even better than leny yoro was.

Awful back to back games for the lad, good timing Dias is back to take his spot.
If we continue to play a high line, he and Guehi should be starting ahead of Dias . He saved us a few times in the first half, in the second half against Wissa, Dias would have struggled to match pacy forwards

Consistently our best defender for the last few weeks , would slot him into right back when Dias is fit to play alongside Guehi , he has blistering pace and strength , he is going to have a long and successful career he has got everything defensively and proving a snip at £30m

Dont think he had a bad game in the slightest, in fact I think he was vital as the only one who had any chance of defending in such a highline.

Would be a major mistake for Dias to come in for him. Take out our fastest centre back for our slowest and still playing a ultra high line would be suicide. It's Dias or Guehi alongside Khusanov imo.

Not impossible to imagine them as a back 3 with ait-nouri and Nunes as wingback if we want to properly adopt a 2 man strikeforce. That back 5, two from haaland, marmoush and semenyo upfront, a cherki/doku/foden/reijnder in the hole and 2 central midfielders from rodri, nico, bernardo and O'Reilly or perhaps 3 in tougher games.

Going from 2 10s from 4 players, to only 1 10 from 4 options will make alot of players unhappy.

Im not against a 352 either, Savinho can play both wingbacks as well which kinda works for rotation there.

I do think a back 3 in possession is almost inevitable when the players are back.

Dias, Gvardiol, Khusanov and Guehi when all fit... does Pep bench 2 of them? I somehow doubt it.

Agreed up until you mentioned Savinho

Agreed, people rave over his pace but it's usually noticeable because he's dived in and had to recover or he was out of position to begin with.

We have a chance of competing once Dias and Guehi get a few games together.
We've only ever looked solid this year with Dias and Gvardiol playing together.

Their injuries kicked off our recent poor run.

Apart from him giving the ball away on occasion (which all of our defenders have form for, Nunes in particular), I think a lot of his supposed "mistakes" are largely him being out of position because he's bailing out the rest of the back line who at times can be all over the place.

Case in point, he stopped them getting a tap in at the back post yesterday with some brilliant covering. That wasn't even his man, it was Nunes'.

I think at times he feels obliged to try and carry the entire back four instead of sticking rigidly to his role. It makes him look like he's always the man doing the last ditch defending, and any defender would struggle to look good when they're constantly in that position. Yet despite that I think he's fucking brilliant at it, and if he had slightly more experienced, defensively minded players around him (especially the full backs), he would be hard as nails to beat.

Yes he is also a bit impetuous, but I don't mind it. We have so many players who pull out of 50:50s and are a bit soft in the tackle. Sometimes you need somebody who is just going to put the fear of god into people. Make them flinch first.
