14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

Yet to be convinced he's going to make it. Lacks awareness.
At the moment I'm putting it down to youth and stop / start playing time.
 
Thought he was the best player on the pitch tonight. It’s the most controlled we’ve looked in midfield for weeks. Ironically since he was visibly knackered before his injury.
 
Always needs an extra touch. Extremely slow. Can’t see him and Rodri working together. 2 CM needed next season
 
was pretty good, kept things moving, put himself about. Suffered the collective drop off but was hardly alone.
 
Was never sure about his speed of thought and awareness, but he had some excellent games just before his injury. Hopefully this is just him taking a few games to get back to that level - if he does, then he can be excellent for us.
 
a bit slow at the moment wanting an extra touch but I think that’s probably down to being a bit rusty, just needs to keep the ball moving. When he’s on it, he’s mustard.

I am reading some posts and think I must be wrong or watching a different player! He is great but I think some people are now so spoiled they pick on bits of what the player lacks and judge from there. Yes he is not the fastest, yes he is not quite as good a passer as Rodders, but my god he is a great player and offers loads when he is upto speed. No player is peffect and some seem to think that they have to be!

He is ahead of Rodri though at the same age? Nico is being compared to Ballon Dor Rodri?
 
What I like is when I'm watching I sometimes think of shit he's out numbered here in a tight spot we're in trouble but he seems quite clever at wriggling away/ using his body and really helps our build up, tackles too.
Hadn't picked up on the negative comments, agree he's not rapid.or very elegant but very useful imo. Maybe ideally he'd be the third of 2 elite CM coming in for lesser games but I think he's a good footballer.
 
I think he's underrated due to us having peak Rodri in past few years. Nico is a v intelligent player in his own right and many a time when in difficult spots knows how to draw a foul also which stops the opponents potential counter attacks, which is exactly what we need at times. A player im v happy is in the squad.
