The Labour Government

Starmer must go down as one of the worst PM's this country has ever had.
Shame it's not going to work out but, the signs were there in those party debates pre GE where even holding all the aces he was a rabbit in the headlights at times.

I decided there and then that he had a fuck I'm actually going to be PM thoughts in his head and although some good policies have gone through he's not had a good 12 months, maybe a little better than the numerous recent Tory leaders but, it's a fucking low bar to climb over.

Labour from a seemingly impregnable position have managed to dilly dally around and become almost un-electable.

Truss for sure, Johnson more nuanced but ok, but who was the 3rd?

The problem with Starmer is every one of his problems have been wholly self inflicted. He didn’t have to do any of them.
I have to say for total and utter buffoonery Johnson was, and hopefully will remain, in a league of his own. Unbelievable this clown was in charge.

10 year cancer plan and plan to get 10,000 more kids fostered.

800 million for local areas to help with pride in place announced today.

Don’t remember much of these good things being announced under the last lot.

Labour social media had 100 good things they are doing a few months ago.

However the press is all about Mandelson for about a week.

Keir is objectively better than Boris, May, Truss, and possibly Rushi not a very high bar but true.

Yet I think he is hated more than any of them even Boris and Truss.

I can only put it down to the following he is boring and not great at communicating. I happen to think Boris and Trump are not very good at it but for some reason other people think they are.

Being a lawyer.

People might think he is posh because he is Sir. Not that being posh stopped Boris or Cameron etc.

O and taking winter fuel away which was actually the right call but the wrong threshold it’s now back up to a too higher point

This whole thing feels so idicative of Starmer's premiership.

He has 2 genuinely good weeks with Greenland/2 child cap/China trade deal/homicide rates lowest in 50 years/breakfast clubs

Then some party political controversy rear ends him and he's in crisis fighting for his job again.
The issue is the controversy is all of his own making - his bad choices keep deflecting from the actual job.

However, whilst I think he's a massive disappointment as a prime minister, maybe because too much hope was placed upon him being so different to the Tories, I find the vitriol aimed at him remarkable, especially when compared with how Johnson or Sunak were treated before him.

Notwithstanding the above paragraph, he's absolutely got to go. If there was a genuinely viable replacement he'd have gone a while ago

He’ll be lucky to last the week.

Actually, this time, he’s actually done something that might make this true.

However, because he’s been told to resign each day for the past 500 days, the demand draws less gravitas due to boy who cried wolf scenario.

There aren't that many Labour MPs openly calling for Starmer to go, are there?

Badenoch going after McSweeney seems likely to help focus things - I have the impression from how it's been reported that many MPs want him gone as their focus too. They don't see a candidate who will be a better PM than Starmer at the moment, so it would see more dissension and achieve little.

McSweeney will be sacrificed to save Starmer I would imagine. His position will be found to be totally untenable if it can be demonstrated that he orchestrated Mandelson’s appointment.
He is Labour’s Dominic Cummings.

True, it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

It seems the verdict of the trial by social media doesn’t seems as strong this time around, which can only be a good thing for politics moving forwards, wherever you sit on the political spectrum.

Interesting point, it would be good to have less shrieking.

I think that Mandelson clearly having lied about things makes him less damaging to Starmer. That this has all escalated from sealed and therefore unavailable documents in the Epstein files creates the option that no-one could have proven the worst parts (I doubt anyone thinks that Mandelson told Starmer that he'd passed on financial information/ideas).

It seems to me that the vetting of Mandelson was overly reliant on his words, and that he'd not been picked up over the worst elements beforehand. Hindsight over the exact wording of Mandelson's replies is easy.

I hadn't realised that Badenoch was advocating a vote of confidence in Starmer - that's not going to hurt Starmer.

We've all seen these political assassinations/self destructions before and know how it invariably ends. Once you are in the teeth of the mob it's only going to go one way.
Surprisingly Angela Rayner has taken over favouritism to be the next Prime Minister (similar to Mandelson she had to resign) followed closely by Wes Streeting and Ed Milliband.

Do we not have MI5 and MI6 to feed information to the PM?

Or are these two organisations as useless as he is?

If there's any positives to come out of this situation, it's the pure comedy value of the usual suspects on here desperately trying to defend the never-ending list of indefensibles. I admire your loyalty and stamina as much as I admire your ability to make me laugh out loud. Carry on!

Yet Johnson murdered hundreds of thousands of people.

Truss destroyed our post Brexit fragile economy.

Numerous Tory cabinet ministers either being perves or committing tax payer fraud stealing our money during COVID.

Labour will always get a shoeing in the media. The current scandal deserves it. Yet compared to previous government issues it's given a bigger platform of exposure.
