Will we win the league this season? No

Did you honestly think we could win the title at the start of the season mate ? I think we have done well so far but we are running out of steam now and tbh arsenal have been thr best team .
I didn’t think we’d be going for the title this season.

I wasn’t sure exactly what we were going to be with so many new players, so many young players and so many players who’ve never won anything or been a key player in a team that has. But I thought we’d be better than last season and look like building back to being a title winning side in a few years.

Arsenal, while a more settled and older squad than us, aren’t a great side so they aren’t that far ahead of us in points (today’s result pending). So, looking at the table, even through the last few weeks with our poor form, it looks like we could be in a title race, but I really don’t think we are. We will be too inconsistent to win the league.

I imagined we’d finish around 9-12 points behind the title winners which I thought would be Liverpool, or Arsenal as an outside bet.

I just want to get over 80 points and see where that leaves us. I think that’s realistic with our current squad.

If we don't go to the wire in the title race it won't be because we don't win at Anfield, or didn't win away at Arsenal, or Villa, or even the rags.

It'll be the 2 points out of 12 against Brighton and Spurs that have killed us. You can't drop those points against sides in the bottom half and expect to win the title.

Todays result against the Dippers is immaterial , even if we win the Goons will grind out enough wins to clinch the title , they are a robotic , workmanlike side with no flair , they remind of the Leeds sides from the 70's , horrible to watch but got the job done. The standard of the top six in the Premier league has dropped , hence the reason such a turgid side as the Goons are going to win the league , if ourselves and the Dippers get our act together for next season the Goons will be found out for what they are , best of a bad bunch

This title race stuff is a bit of a media thing for me so hey presto instead of City improving quite a bit from last season, they can get the magic word of lost and City in the same sentence when we finish second

We did drop points against teams like that in most of our recent title winning seasons.

In 2017-18, we did only lose to Liverpool (a) and United (h). But we also drew with Palace a (finished 11th), Burnley a (finished 7th) and Huddersfield h (finished 16th).

In 2018-19, lost to Palace h (finished 12th), Leicester a (finished 9th) and Newcastle a (finished 13th), and we drew with Wolves a (finished 7th).

In 2020-21, we lost to Leeds a (finished 9th) and Brighton a (finished 16th), and drew with Leeds a (finished 9th) and West Brom h (finished 19th).

In 2021-22, lost to Palace a (finished 12th), and drew with Southampton h+a (finished 15th), Palace a (finished 12th) and West Ham a (finished 7th).

In 2022-23, we lost to Brentford h+a (finished 9th), and drew with Everton a (finished 17th) and Forest a (finished 16th).

In 2023-24, we lost to Wolves a (finished 14th) and drew with Palace h (finished 10th).

Win today and I'd start to believe and I suspect Arsenal might start to believe it as well.

Unfortunately, think we'll get stuffed, especially once the Ovaltine and bedtime stories kick in after half time
Yep we need Lijinders to do the H/T team talk today.

Good post.

I'm still backing us to do it, but will concede that it's probably not going to be our year if we lose this one at Anfield.

With pep constantly playing Erling Haaland on current form we are never going to get close to Arsenal. I’m sick of seeing Haaland strolling around the pitch offering nothing. Why wasn’t he subbed in place of Marmoush??

Probably because of his commercial value. Makes no sense otherwise.

Change tne thread to will we finish in the top 4.
Way things are going, with us only being able to play a decent 30 minutes a gane, our challenge is to finish in tne CL places and 1 win in 7 has us looking over our shoulders
I beg you, please post more often, especially when we are trailing and need late goals.

Just six points. Despite the injuries, despite all the "bad luck" with refereeing decisions, despite Arsenal getting away with rugby in the penalty box, just six points.
