Liverpool (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

It is hard to quantify what those last 15 minutes will mean to the players, but with the opportunity to go on a run presenting itself, as the squad strengthens and more players get match fit, those looking for omens will have found that performance and result at Anfield, when we really, really needed it, as ominous as possible!

And, on the subject of our Captain, I dare ANYONE to say he doesn’t deserve another contract. He was superlative and rightfully won MOTM, even though I gave it to Gigio in the BM poll, for the best game saver I’ve seen in a very long time!
I’m sure they will keep Bernado if he wants to stay, which is the real question.
Either way, he is a legend in my book.

That's the bit that has been bugging me. I appreciate that the rules have been followed, but I also don't understand the VAR protocol here. I don't understand how the ref/lino has missed the two interactions? It's as clear as day in real time, pre-VAR the ref would 99% of the time just agreed that it came out in the wash.
Yep. The drama would have endured and that is what most fans want.

I have not seen any discussion about what if we had been drawing at the time the third goal went in? Imagine the shit storm that would have ensued. Compared to some VAR decisions like the Henderson handball this one was not so infuriating as it did not change the result. Still utterly ridiculous that we were denied a certain goal by cheating.

I thought we were going to put in another 2nd half insipid perfirmance & never sae that turn around. Kudos to Nunes for winning the penalty.

How big a signing could Guehi be & its looking a huge fuck up by the dippers. Its early days ,but he's looking like the 2nd coming of Vinny
Could he be this season’s LaPorte?

A few things concerned me last night regarding some of our players game management.

- Ait Nouri had two options when he broke forward late on, Cherki and Erling. At that point in the game, going for glory definitely wasn't the right option.

- Cherki taking that free kick after the VAR debacle. Surely that has to be a short free kick to keep possession or a punt forward and out for a throw in deep in their half. Can only imagine what would have happened if the subsequent goal kick would have resulted in a successful attack and goal for them.

Then there is the complete opposite type of game management

- Bernardo grabbing that ball after his goal, no celebration, let's get another. That's what you want to see!
Before Cherki took that free-kick, gargoyle one said that there were only 15 seconds left.

I’m sure Rayan was aware of that, and that’s why he booted it into the stand.

Sure enough, as soon as Allison took the game-kick, Pawson blew for full-time.

I don't care about playing advantage. My point was that they chose to apply the law in one incident, but not in the other despite both going to VAR. That's the parallel.
They got round not applying the law at Wembley by saying the Haaland or the ball was going away from goal. It was only the case because of the deliberate handball outside the area. Basically they lied to keep it 11 v 11 for reasons best known to themselves.

I was wondering, does the referee have to tell the players how long is left if they ask?

Wondering whether the referee said it was game over once the ball came back into play etc

Not sure id ever trust them, but tbf we needed to get the ball back up into the air ASAP and id always back us to win a header from a goal kick

The ref clearly told him time was up so he smashed it.
Exactly. It would have been straight back to Donnarumma if there had been any more time left.

Your hypothetical is farcical. There are a dozen websites or podcasts that can explain the ruling. It’s a correct decision based on the laws.

Except it is not.

The whole premise of the law, is subjective, when it comes to advantage beig played. The wording defines it as 'wait and see' and every word used is 'may'. The whole point is to make a call on whether the advantage played materialsed or not.

There are only two ways in this scenario the decision can be (subjectively) correct.

The goal stands. OR, the goal is disallowed because of Haaland's foul. But without then going back one event further.

The advantage played either materialises, or it doesnt. If the tussle which happens within 2-3 seconds is one event, then it materialises and the goal counts. If they are two separate fouls, then the advantage doesn't materialise, because he wastes it by committing a foul.

Anywhere else on the pitch,if advantage is played, and the attacking player commits a foul in the next passage of play, they don't then get the original free kick.

The whole thing is based on a discretionary view of whether the advantage was worthwhile, so the idea it even Can be 'by the letter of the law' is misplaced.

You can watch it another 1,000,000 times and you still won’t see a foul. He literally lost his balance and fell over. Watch Bernardo say to the ref two or three times, “who”. It was a ghost foul, the ones the likes of Doku never get but red shirted twats do. Still not convinced it was a foul on Salah when he comically fell over for the second time in the match. Contests the difference between Erl at the end having his shirt pulled but carried on running and Salah who only has to be touched and his arms and legs go all over the place. Absolute cheat and it’s something he has done for years.
You just konw that if that free kick was awarded to us, there would be an article the next day on BBC sport website with the headline "Is there a problem with Ghost Free Kicks?"

Bang on. And joleon said in the studio that salah isn’t one to go down (that was in relation to the Bernardo incident in the first half) YCMIU
