Seat Counters 25/26

Yeah…spot on mate,we simply cannot compare to Liverpool,Utd and to a lesser extent Arsenal and the Spuds…the first two are behemoths.

The fanbase I have a lot of respect for are West Ham,been shockingly run for as long as I can remember, garbage team….yet I’ve seen them fill their stadium or come very close…and that stadium is shite, not really for football….60000 as well.
Teams like Villa,Leeds etc etc can do one….until they all get bigger stadiums they can fuck off…..it’s easy to say you’d fill your stadium if they extend…but Villa are 40000 Leeds I think are 36000 come back when you extend like City have.
The last point is a key one. Had this debate with the resident Chelsea fan at work, explaining to him when we have 2,000 empty seats, there’s still 10,000 more than Stamford Bridge holds. He’s a good lad and said he never thought of it that way. Too many people obsess of seats not filled, and not the numbers.

But regardless, we have a fanbase that can fill 52,000-58,000 regularly I think, they just need to make it cheap enough and scrap the membership subscription.

We don’t have the slack of tourists coming from Wales, southern England, Scandinavia etc. who will buy tickets when the locals can’t afford a game.
Liverpool are the most in demand club for tickets in England. They have a match going fanbase not far off the Rags but a stadium 15,000 smaller.

We’re not going to get that any time soon, so what they need to do is make sure those that regularly do go, can afford to go to multiple games in a month.
Today was yet another example of them charging 3x more than this same game last season and also the last round against Exeter.

The travel issues with Piccadilly shut, caused ticket buyers not to go today, that had already bought tickets, which didn’t help too.
Also, Liverpool are playing a premier league club, we played a league two club.

I heard accents from all over yesterday, including families from other parts of Northern Europe wearing City scarves.

Yes we don’t have the support of Liverpool and Man U and that’s just the way it is.

It's not just affordability. Some fans can't attend 8 home matches in 5-6 weeks for a variety of reasons. We absolutely need to expand the fan base to fill the ground particularly for these lesser games.

We need to something about this , I’ve defended it for ever but it’s real on your Tv screens .
I’m watching the dippers now and can’t see one empty !
You very rarely see empties at anfield or OT to be fair
They also don’t have the problem of leaving early like ourselves, unless they’re getting hammered

Regarding local fanbase, I'd say City have one of the highest for attending games. I reckon we have 35k locals attending all our home games, and I'd put the rags at about 40k but in a bigger capacity and probably 30k scousers at Anfield. Whilst we're definitely attracting more tourists now we're not as heavily reliant on them than those other two clubs

Do we need to expand the fanbase to fill the ground?

We’ve got more than enough fans currently. The issue is, a lot of those are priced out from attending regularly

My point is we need to expand the match going fan base. We can't expect the same 45-48k fans to attend every single home game when we play so many. I'd be interested to see how many different individuals attend matches at the Etihad in a single season compared to other clubs. I bet it's a low number compared to our rivals.

People being bothered about a few 100 or a few 1000 empty.seats must have a fucking great life with zero stress if thats all they are worrying about.
Why does it even bother anyone? Seriously can't get my head around it. Ticket pricing yes this needs discussing.and true it is linked to empty seats clearly but tightening your arteries because a few you tubers, X user gain traction with the empty seat jibes...hilarious how some get rattled by so little.

Another factor is fans seem to have got fatigued with trying to transfer cheap or sometimes free tickets to other Blues who say at the last minute that they don’t have the match day membership. Whatever the rights or wrongs of charging a membership fee, it’s going to affect actual attendances.

I think this is accurate. We have a good hardcore local every match going fanbase, about the same as United maybe.....but we are aging.
AND.....United have a broader local fanbase I think.....lads who go 2 or 3 games a season. We just don't seem to have that. At work etc we can't give spare tickets away, whereas the reds can get rid of theirs to their wider local fanbase....

Met up with various groups of friends yesterday before and after the the match ,we are all footballed out and desperately need a break from it .
It's becoming a chore and not something we are enjoying at the moment.
Yesterday was also the day we decided to come off the cup scheme,I don't enjoy home games anymore 19 is enough ,if something comes up I will just buy a ticket ,and just do any interesting away games against non prem teams .
Might be different than some but tickets at £1 won't entice me ,just too much football.

I disagree on that Rags point. Anecdotal I know but given the multiple surveys done on the local fanbases in Greater Manchester, and City coming out on top in most… plus the fact I come across far more blues that go to games, I just can’t see how more local Rags go. I remember them having more local season ticket holders than when they did a survey in about 2002, but we were obviously at a smaller capacity ground back then.

I’ve lived and worked in the region and in different locations around Greater Manchester, all my life. There’s always been blues from all the offices I’ve worked in or pubs I’ve gone in, that go to games. I genuinely can’t say the same for the Rags.

We have a Swindon office and there’s more match going Rags, who drive up for every home game, than there is in our Manchester office. There’s 3 of them that car share.

I work in a job where I speak to the public all day and when they see an 0161 number the blokes usually bring up football asking if I’m blue or red. The amount of times I speak to a southerner, Welsh, even Scottish bloke, who attends the Rags regularly and is disappointed (jokingly) to hear I’m blue, is astonishing.

Last week it was a bloke from Glasgow who has a season ticket. He gets a train down and stays over for every single league home game at the swamp. I told him that I would say fair play for the dedication but you’re a Scotsman that has chosen the club of evil, luckily he found the funny side.

We do seem to have people either go all the time or don’t go at all.

Spot on GM. I don’t miss home games and I got home last night and I was knackered. Not all fans can sustain 2 games per week and I’m glad we’ve got a clear midweek.

Great post. Said exactly the same mate. Im on the fa cup scheme and c.league scheme simply for purposes of me getting final tickets.
The only other reason is my youngest is 13 and I simply cannot bring myself to say sorry mate dont fancy it anymore. Have to do my parental duty to my boys. Despite this I do feel fatigued with the amount of football there is. As you say when it becomes a chore to go to something I have been doing for 40 plus years then maybe its time to reassess.
I have only missed 4 away games this season and these are a different matter totally. I love the away days, just a different vibe so I wont be scrubbing these anytime soon.
The club needs to listen to the feedback on the ticket transfer policy. This is stopping fams.who cant commit every week from being able to go when regular attendees cant.

Its gettin fuckin silly with them cunts now. The club really need to ban this vile City hating, paedophile protecting woke mother fuckers from the club and then start calling the fuckers out with the constant negative City and constant pro Rag bastard propaganda. I FUCKIN DESPISE EM!
The official crowd for the Gala match was 40,800 which looks about right for what I saw in the ground. The BBC used a made up figure of 35,000 which was copied by the rest of the media. The official crowd is in the City programme. Just the usual fake news.

I can partly relate to this. I came off the cup schemes this season to partly fund a big holiday. I’m also a bit fed up of a 60 mile round trip on a “cold Wednesday night in winter” when the traffic on the way to the game is always awful and the drive to the stadium can take over 90 minutes. Getting home is normally about 45 minutes.

ATM I can’t now see myself returning to the cup schemes next season, although I’m going to the League Cup final.

Perhaps I’m just becoming an FOC. Me not being in my usual seat for cup games does give others the opportunity though, if City get their pricing right !

I saw a group of young what looked like Eastern European lads wearing half and half scarfs on the CBL3 concourse. They seemed pretty excited and giddy before the match. No doubt they were bored shitless after the match.

There was quite a lot of what you would call tourist types in CBL3 yesterday.

Question, if anyone can answer it?

Where tickets on open sales yesterday, or did you have to have a membership card to buy a ticket?
