82 | Rico Lewis - 2025/26

I've not liked a lot of comments made about Rico and a lot have been unfair.

However, he's now only playing rarely and it tends to coincide with poor team performances.

Feels like he needs to leave for his own good, and the more he plays this season the more any transfer fee will drop.

10 hours after the game..
Not a single comment after he played the full 90 mins.

As much as I like him.. I'd say no comment by the entire forum is a comment in itself.

All the best Rico!
I think even his biggest supporters are realising that they’ve backed the wrong horse. Its abundantly clear that he has lost the trust of the manager. He’s now only getting the games he would have hoped for as a youth team player 4 years ago. Being wheeled out once a month to give others a rest, is a huge kick in the teeth and reality check for a full international.

We should have took the money on offer last summer and now have to hope that there is money on the table this summer. I have my doubts there will be.

How hes played over 100 games for the club is beyond me

Maybe gets a move to a promoted club in the summer, but i dont think he'd be a regular for Forest had he gone there

because he is so so so good and so so smart in the pockets according to Pep and plays him as a right back . Should have sold him long time ago.

It's all about size and stature. Players of his size simply don't (can't) thrive in current football in England unless their technical ability is off the charts or they are lightning quick - which he isn't. Some, like Summerville or Buendia, do impact games but they're attacking players not a make shift RB or an anchor midfielder.

Lots of sideways obvious passes yesterday.

I think with the emergence and versatility of Nico OR (and maybe even without that), and the current physicality of the prem, that the Rico experiment is drawing to a close. Bobb seemed a far better bet at making it and we've cut our losses there, and maybe moving Bobb on and signing Semenyo and Guehi shows that we're getting serious again.

The only way I can see Rico staying for the foreseeable is if he is happy to make up the numbers in games like yesterday

No idea why he got an extension. Most likely of in the summer if city can get 3 HG players for stones, ake and him.

I have never really rated him but that’s not what I have come on to say. Watching him I think that there could be a tidy player in there. What I feel he lacks and has always lacked is intelligence. When I watch him he puts the effort in, always moving and always busy, but he tends to do the same thing all the time - get the ball pass it and then rush forward (getting in other’s way most of the time) or gets the ball and rushes to pass it on, or when defending, because he always makes a forward run after passing he is out of position. What he needs to learn, and I think he could, is pause… review the current situation and adapt his move to it. Sounds easy I know but it’s not, but I do think he could improve on this and would become more involved if he did.

Unfortunately I think he probably has to move on, the game is too physical for him to be a RB for us.

So midfield it is... but we are also seeing the physical players start over the likes of Foden, Cherki and Reijnders... so how does he play there?

He is 21. A clever player with a footballing brain and an ability to consistently find space.
Plenty of time to develop greater physicality.
Squads with 22 superstars never, ever deliver.

In times like the one we are in, Pep often reverts to a hard-core of trusted players, and he plays them until someone is banned or injured. I suspect we are in the midst of that and even Cherki and Foden have been sacrificed to an extent.

But does he even make the squad of 22 players next season?

Obviously depends who comes in and goes but I don't think so, he is probably like the 24th player for me.

I hope so, but it is a good point.
The shame, for me, is that the game is moving towards more physicality, and in that area he cannot compete even if he really adds on muscle mass. If, for example, we bring in Reis and Mfuni, just as two possibilities, they are UNITS, and technical too.

He could well be 22nd or 24th choice in the squad list next season but every club has a player who is 22nd. If he is not making the squad, people who don't want him there don't have to worry.
The only thing is that Rico down the picking order will be replaced by someone similar who is also down the picking order.
I can see him wanting to leave for more game time but I doubt Pep will be forcing him out

Yeah good shout, Reis and Mfuni are a shoe in for me down the line making up some numbers.

But I even look at like Mukasa, doing well for Leicester, and has a more physically capable body in midfield, does Lewis get in over him in 2 years?

I'm not sure, he is a great squad backup player, but the team is going to get too big soon.
