47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

Can’t see the likes of Madrid going anywhere near him on his form the last two years

Why would Madrid go for him? They are stacked with his type of players. All they need is a real RW and creative midfielder. Foden is neither of those.

Just an example. Any big club would want him on a free !

What we need to decide is whether he is worth £300k plus a week which is what he will want.

His form has been awful for a while and got someone who is relatively young still he just looks miles off it in terms of speed and physicality. I get he isn't going to out muscle bigger players but he gets bumped off the ball with ease, doesn't seem to have any acceleration to get past people either.

Not sure what has happened to him but he isn't good enough to start for us at this moment in time and I didn't think I would ever say that.

Shined when playing alongside players 4 or 5 years older than him, who were arguably the best players in their positions

David Silva, Bernardo, Rodri, KDB etc

Been found out now that he cant now take their mantle now that hes reached his mid 20s, so hes just become another squad member, who will give you a 6 or 7 out of 10 most weeks, with the odd 9

Sick of hearing the various excuses, he just simply doesnt have the heart that the greats have had, and that cant be taught
It’s very sad and frustrating to see but this is not far from the truth I suspect.

And a story as old as time when it comes to English footballers.

The truly great players just don't go backwards like Phil has. Haven't got a clue why he has gone from Gold to Shit in such a short space of time.
A couple of years ago we were all legitimately talking about him as ballon dor material.

His fall has been so shocking. Maybe he’s struggled to adapt to being placed in as the ‘main man’ after the previous generation of leaders moved on - your Kev’s and Gundo’s etc.

It’s all in his head whatever it is.

Maybe Phil has realised himself that he can never deliver to the levels of KDB and DS when he thought 2 years ago that he could. It must very hard personally to come to terms with the fact that you realise that in fact you are not as good as you and everyone else thought you were and at your age you are perhaps past your performance peaks. Everybody thought he would take on the mantle of these players but sadly it appears he cannot kick on.

I said in the post match, but him, Cherki and Reijnders all got in each other's way.

Which is normally fine, we did this with Doku, but then you need someone who can go past players like Doku did and none of those 3 did that.

So they just passed the ball to each other in close space, but there was no penetration, so it was pointless.

I think Pep realized this, and why the 4222 had success, 2 strikers who naturally want to run behind, and only 10s.

I hope I`m barking up the wrong tree here, but I hope sincerely that he doesn`t end up like Michael Johnson and he`s completely fallen out of love with the game.
What a talent young Michael was, who in the end could not take the price of success and its trimmings.
Hope I`m completely wrong and Phil is just going through a poor phase and nothing more.

As someone said all the great players have left and moved on apart from Rodri and just that happening has had a massive effect on him they all helped and nurtured him along and now they have gone he feels lost to a degree and he can’t cope. Still he’s a multimillionaire tho.

I've never really taken to him. He showed so much promise but has just not delivered bar a few patches.

In reality he is a squad player and if he was playing for any other team, a team which isn't filled with stars, he wouldn't stand out.

Right now I'd rather we started Nico O Riley then Phil.

Foden has become a major worry, this isn’t a “dip in form” he’s basically been shit for two years with the rare odd good performance thrown in, never seen a player fall from grace like he has, god knows what’s gone so wrong? Saturday was the perfect stage for him to show his god given talent, but yet again he hid away & stank the etihad out, I love Phil as one of our own, but I never thought I see the day when city are a better side without him in it, which unfortunately is now the case

Some interesting thoughts on here, might be worth adding a lot seem to feel the game has changed tactically the last few years with tighter marking off the ball and this could be killing his ability to attack teams at pace. Shouldn't really excuse it though.

Yeah, it’s nonsense really. If he could still dribble he’d be able to create his own space. You’ve only got to watch Doku when he plays inside the odd time. He beats someone and space opens up for him and us.

I remember a few years back against PSG he played LW and he caused absolute havoc.

He has a had a great start to the season , but the past 2 months have at times been worse than last season, looks short of pace, ideas and technical ability. At times over trying. Ive also noticed when something doesn't come off for him he immediately looks at Pep. Maybe there is a fear of failing element?

Maybe he just is not the player we think he is ? But that I am also unsure of that as we have seen it in him.

People think he was outstanding in the 23/24 season, he scored alot of important goals but he did have moments like he was having now.

Needs some time on the bench. Technically the best in the team but needs to show it.

The stick he's getting on here is pathetic.

He's still only 25, TWENTY FIVE.

He's been absolutely brilliant and deserves our full support with whatever is going on with him.

Personally I think like the club & Pep he's in transition himself. He's grew up and played with the likes of D.Silva, Gundogan, Fernandinho, KDB, and Rodri around him. He's not had a solid settled midfield behind or with him for 18 months due to the loss of Rodri and the aging of the others.

He's too technically gifted and class for him to be written off.

Hopefully he doesn't go to the World Cup and he gets a summer break.

Kid will be back and in the next 7 years plus he'll go down as the most decorated Manchester City player of all time.

There’s a difference between stick and people talking about his form on a
