Jim Ratcliffe - claims the UK is being “colonised”

So what is the reality?

That we aren’t multicultural by their own definitions of it and the vast majority of immigrants have integrated well and share a common unity in terms of purpose and goals with the rest of us.

It all ultimately then becomes about levels and to what extent people are happy with that integration. The far right will keep pushing that level until there’s pretty much nothing left.

It's used to silence debate, the authoritarian left uses the language of compassion, diversity and tolerance, but shows no compassion for any opinion other than their own, no tolerance of dissent and diversity in all things except questioning of orthodoxy.

Trevor Philips who attended the unite the kingdom march and wrote about what he experienced was given the cold shoulder as it veered from the orthodoxy, and he was shunned not too long ago when he pointed out that while the work place might look increasingly like the league of nations, at the end of the day all too many of us go back to our ethnic enclaves, it might have a racial element to it, but primarily it's ethnic, meaning people like them.

The left is not interested in dissenting voices, their solution to whatever is happening right now is to double down on the dogma, which consists entirely of shouting racist, but louder.

You’re better than this mate.

I agree.

I hate to disappoint you but I'm done with the working class hatred, the enforced stupidity, the sanctimony, the misogyny and the lies.

I've given up on the left, I'm politically homeless now and I'm not alone.
I’m not trying to dismiss how you feel, but I think it’s worth being clear about what you mean by “the left.” Who exactly are you referring to?

In my life-time the UK hasn’t had a government that you would describe as left-wing. New Labour was socially liberal but largely centrist and market-friendly, and Cameron's Conservatives were again socially liberal but economically right-wing, there was then the bat-shit crazy populist nonsense that followed, and whatever this Labour party is, is anything but "the left".

When people blame “the left,” I think they’re really talking about centrist liberal politics, or about parts of modern political culture.

I’d argue that a lot of what’s driving frustration right now feels less like ideology and more like political strategy. Culture-war issues often get amplified by some right-wing politicians because they’re emotionally engaging and easy to communicate. They resonate more with working-class, and middle-class people who aren’t deeply engaged in politics because they sound like common-sense positions on complicated topics.

At the same time, I think that some on "the left" (those that see themselves as progressive) often fall into the trap of spending too much time arguing those culture-war battles instead of focusing on clear messaging about real change.

Great post. I live in London and feel exactly the same.
Before Covid, my floor at work had around 70-80 people from 35 different nationalities. we actually counted one day.

My daughters go to primary school with children from all nationalities and faiths. It’s a wonderful place to live and for kids to grow up in.

In contrast, in my early 20s I brought my ex-girlfriend, who is a second-generation immigrant and non-white, to meet my parents. I grew up about 30 minutes from Manchester city centre. In the space of 30 minutes walking around my town, we were spat at and experienced two other racially motivated incidents. That was the day I realised I could never live there again.

We were together for over four years, and while living in London I didn’t experience a single derogatory comment.

I’m sorry to hear that was your experience mate. My wife is black and I’ve shared on here before how eye-opening meeting her was for me. I naively was convinced that the UK had sort of “solved” racism and we were one of the “good countries”. I think in the grand scheme of things we’re of course not the worst, but people don’t realise how much work still needs to be done and now it feels like we’re moving backwards. My wife was physically attacked and mugged when she lived in Yorkshire by a group of blokes calling her racial slurs. Working in the NHS, she’s had racist comments thrown at her regularly by patients for over a decade, it’s better down here but she works in Essex and regularly travels to Clacton… so you can imagine. She’s stubborn as anything though, and she’ll take the abuse because she loves to help people.

Meanwhile my team at work comprises two Englishmen, a Welshman, two Indians, a Lithuanian, a Turk and a Greek (who somewhat ironically get on like a house on fire). They are all absolutely brilliant at their job and I would defend them in front of anybody. And we still go for fish and chips and a pint when we celebrate our team successes.

Do I understand that people are worried that somewhere along the road we are losing something in our identity? Sure, I get that not everybody has been in my shoes and they see that as a threat. Do I get that they’re worried about increasing competition in our economy which is maybe having a negative impact on people who live here? Sure I get that too (while not being convinced that’s proven to be true).

But if people are actually worried about the above then I’d suggest the solution to these things is not to blame and demonise those who are just here to live their life like everybody else. Nor is the solution to make up statistics and lie like scruffy Jim. We need constructive dialogue about actual solutions, things like investment and better access to training, more opportunities for working class communities. Showing pride in our cultural idiosyncrasies and championing our values so that the people who come here will want to get involved and be part of the community that makes us British. Bring people into the tent and make it stronger for having them there.

Unfortunately, I don’t see this kind of serious dialogue. What I see mostly is hateful and divisive rhetoric - people calling immigrants colonisers and misappropriating our flag to make people feel intimidated. What is that solving, exactly? This is the sort of stuff which won’t impact 70-80% of people in this country but will impact my family and it genuinely worries me.

I’d like to interject and just state that you talk an absolute load of horseshit.

I’ll now retreat back to my comfortable place where I work with lots of different people from lots of different walks of life. We all get along and we all enjoy each others cultures. Personally, I’m partial to a mild veggie curry, momo’s and lovo.

My wife is white and was physically attacked and racially abused called white bitch/slag by Pakistani lads. Her mate had a milkshake thrown at her then got racially abused. They lived around Aston at the time. My wife got groped in the street by an older Pakistani man and had to run into a shop, called one of her mates to pick her up. She was too scared to walk home alone.

I see that Dan Roan has done a piece on the BBC sports platform about Sir Scruff and his 'damaging interview'.
I also notice that our friends over there are steadfast in not opening it up as a HYS column.

Yet anything Pep says about anything at the moment they can't open one fast enough.
Fuckin hate that shower of cnuts

It’s not about the left or the right. Forget about the politics of it and just go back to rational thought and empathy and think of potential consequences of your thought processes in every direction.

You’re a good person fundamentally I think.

And most are politically homeless to the extent you think about it, when was the last time you thought you weren’t?

As one lefty to another although across the pond..

when politicians get more of a following.. someone always try to buy them out to defang them and to keep the rich still rich.

But the ones who're not media savvy, who sometimes say something silly stuff that won't be popular but gives the authentic feel.. those are the ones you get behind and hopefully you can find a figure who cannot be bought.

But for every one step forward.. it's usually two steps back.. don't give up though.. eventually you'll find one that makes you walk in a manner that brings unstoppable change.

He’s on his journey. Transphobia has turned him into a Linehan.

He’s lost any form of empathy or compassion.

He finally lost his mind because some people attached flags to lampposts.

He’d never seen than before. It’s blown his mind.

Holy fuck, what a piece of shit.

Sadly some of the most vile transphobia and homophobia comes from the gay guys and gals. Especially towards bi/ trans folks.

You are literally just repackaging Enoch Powell's attacks on "multi-enthicism" and erosion of white culture and replacing that word for multiculturalism. It's not ad-hominem to point that out, it's just the truth, and if you don't believe that go read what he actually wrote.

You've provided zero evidence for your claims that "multiculturalism is a lie", and there are plenty of demographic studies that disprove your theory of white flight and segregation over the last 30 years because it's just not fucking true.
The easy question is to ask him what he disagrees with from Enoch’s speech.
