Obviously supporting a football club is usually because you're local or through family, the vast majority of the time.

But what about individual athletes you support and what's your reason?

I usually support male athletes if I find them entertaining or find something likeable about their about their personality or the way they play their support. Usually it's a case of finding them interesting, or maybe flawed characters like Ronnie O'Sullivan.

With female athletes, I generally support the ones who are a tidy piece or have a nice arse or something.

What athletes do you support?

I always want to see Radacanu do well. Feel she gets unnecessary stick and want to see her achieve what she’s capable of.

I'm not sure I've ever heard Ronnie described as an athlete:-)

Anyhow Steve Ovett was my favourite athlete, super talented, great kick, had a bit about him attitude wise and you general warmed to either him or Coe who was obviously brilliant as well.

Always also had respect for the gruelling sports like long distance runners, cyclists and rowers. Pain is unpleasant when you have the mental capacity to resist it for long periods of time its an extra plus imho.

Me too but I think it's partly down to her being a bit of a sort.

But I also think she's got the ability to win something big again if it all clicks. There's definitely a real talent there.

Ronnie o Sullivan has a 5k PB of 17.31, not too shabby that

Mine is for more noble reasons than her “being a sort” ha.

I think she’s a great talent and has some physical and possibly mental issues to overcome but sees a decent person. Hope
She does it

Justin Rose. My grandad always used to get me to put a bet on for him when he played in a major, think he might have won some place money once.

He passed away in July 2024 and Rose played The Open later that month, didn't have a bet as he only just made it through qualification, no form to speak of whatsoever. Amazingly he led for the first three days and just missed out on the final afternoon, but what an emotional rollercoaster he gave us. I think I would actually have burst into tears if he'd have won.

Rory Mcilroy is another for me. Yes I know he’s a Rag but he’s visited City and he’s an all round decent chap.

Loved watching him win again last year.

Janja Garnbret. Probably the greatest sports climber of all time and she's still only 26. Really enjoy watching everyone else struggling their way through a problem only for her to come out at the end and just do it effortlessly.

I became a fan of the runner Keely last Olympics because we share a last name.

I generally follow a couple boxers through their careers at any one time. Currently my 2 favourites are Dimitry Bivol and Jaron Ennis

Don't 'support' any individual (i fucking hate people who follow a team, because
of one, and change when they move teams) , in any sport, some I admired/admire more than others.
Generally like to see localish people, to me do well....Justin Rose, and James Wade (I know people that know him really well, it's a shame those who slag him, really have no idea about him).
Usually like the ones that think they are good, tell people they're good, and can back it up.....Daley Thompson, Eric Bristow, and despite being a rag, Littler.
Don't like those, who think they're something they're not, by believing their own hype, whinge, whine, and always have excuses.....Radacanu the perfect example, her major win, was a bigger one off than Leicester winning the league.
