Athletes you support and why?

I always want to see Radacanu do well. Feel she gets unnecessary stick and want to see her achieve what she’s capable of.
Sorry. Just can't agree. Always an excuse with her I 've had numerous discussions with my dear OH about her. Imo her attitude stinks. I'm no tennis fan tbh, but she needs to vary her game, play more like Sabalenka.

I much prefer Katie Boulter. I'm not actually a tennis fan, but I'll make an exception to watch Katie.

i have never seen an athlete run so easily.

There is a very good short film about Mondo DuPlantis.
Started off as a little child using a brush as the pole.
Father built a pole vaulting area in his back garden.

None of them tbh. I don't like modern athletes but that's (ultimately) probably because I'm older.

I like them to be amateur. Not race for money. The whole ethos of the Olympics had been lost nowadays, they're all budding stars earning millions eager to get their brand going.

I grew up watching cram and coe, and especially ovett. And it was just as exciting (if not more) than anything nowadays.

Not sure she makes excuses, she’s left tournaments early due to several physical health issues, some of which are exacerbated, I believe, with a mental state of mind, but she keeps coming back and is a real talent.

She’s a nice girl and has already achieved more than the vast majority of British tennis players have.

He was such a terrific runner.

I sort of agree. She seems to lack the mentality to be a true great of the game. Her grand slam record is poor. Hasn't got past the 4th round in any of the tournaments, barring the win at the US Open in 2021.
She was really good at Wimbledon last year, beat a former champion and unlucky to draw the world number 1, a bit of a freak of nature with that power. Emma gave her a hell of a game through skill, because he physical power wasn’t there, whilst she also played through injury.

We were spoilt by Murray, but looking back before him, Radacanu winning that US Open is the best thing that happened for years.

Me too but I think it's partly down to her being a bit of a sort.

But I also think she's got the ability to win something big again if it all clicks. There's definitely a real talent there.
She certainly gets plenty of clicks.

I could be wrong, but is her career very much controlled by her father? I mean I know it can work - see the Williams sisters - but I do wonder whether she needs to take more of her own career decisions (?)

Justin Rose. My grandad always used to get me to put a bet on for him when he played in a major, think he might have won some place money once.

He passed away in July 2024 and Rose played The Open later that month, didn't have a bet as he only just made it through qualification, no form to speak of whatsoever. Amazingly he led for the first three days and just missed out on the final afternoon, but what an emotional rollercoaster he gave us. I think I would actually have burst into tears if he'd have won.
Love Rose. His longevity, attitude and the way he conducts himself.
Hopefully your Grandad backed him when he won the US open over 20 years ago.
