The British Monarchy | Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor arrested for misconduct in public office

Clearly you spend your time reading The Daily Express and Daily Mail
Never read the Express in my life.

I just look beyond social media accounts I follow that reinforce my own beliefs…

As of January 2026, Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, are the most popular members of the Royal Family, with roughly 74-77% of Britons supporting them, according to the latest poll by YouGov.

He (Andy) will have a book of names and dates on the others, the so-called Mr Clean and best friend of Jimmy Savile will have to try and shut him up, but this will be andy's joker card and he will walk away free of any charges

The response is dependent on how the question was framed and against what was being compared. As the survey included questions about Meghan, Harry and Camilla, Prince Edward and Andrew it might be a low bar they were being compared to.

My guess is that the true breakdown is closer to 1/3 pro, 1/3 against and 1/3 don’t care.

You will not be surprised to learn that amongst the 18-34 year old 59% support an elected Head of State. It's a bit like Brexit with a significant generational divide

It’s just positive or negative view question. Do you view them positively or negatively.

They need to survive this Andrew scandal and once he’s popped his clogs, if they’re still going then, it’ll be secure longer term. The next 2 years is the biggest in centuries though.

William is a decent chap and will be a good king. Kate is very likeable.

I know republicans will jump on this to try and get rid of the monarchy, they always do, but William and Kate will make it very popular again.
I'll openly I'm not well versed in the Royals as I don't think they should exist but out of curiosity, do we know what it takes to be 'a good king' @Ban-jani ? :-)

News just now saying plod are still investigating to see if there is any evidence to suggest misconduct.

Am I missing something because the emails from within the Epstein files clearly show this?

He's clearly a sexual predator too but that has never brought about anything

Queen Elizabeth II, will be remembered as the last "good one", in my opinion. The rest have too much of Philip in them.

Anne seems ok but something about the males is wrong. I don't half wonder if Phillip "taught them to be men" in some awful way. It could just be genetics. They are strange things.
I work with wealthy families and I think the worst thing you can do for a child, but young men in particular, is provide too much for them and take away their ability to feel they've made their own way in the world. They lose their sense of purpose and self-reliance and often feel they can't hold their head up among their peers. It inevitably sends some kids off the rails into drugs or whatever.

To the extent I feel any sympathy for Andrew it's because of that dynamic. I reckon most of these people would be happier with normal lives at the end of the day.

These days, keep your head down, nod and smile, say the right things, turn up to charity events, avoid scandal, be generally likeable etc.

In the fun days it meant smashing the fuck out of the French on the battlefield.

As a big fan of the royals, how do you feel about the queen paying £12m to cover up Andrew's noncing?

I’m not a “big fan of the Royals”. I just don’t want us to be a Republic (could you imagine a President Boris?) and therefore want to keep the Monarchy. I couldn’t care less about the hangers on in the family, in fact I’d trim down the Royal Family to as little as possible. The celebrity aspect of it is something I don’t like.

Regarding the Queen “paying £12m to cover up Andrew’s noncing”, well, it looks to be almost half that figure, and it was a settlement paid to the victim. She provided legal support out of her private money to her son, when she was in her 90s, she also stripped him of titles and effectively started the beginning of the end of him being a Royal.

The Queen was a magnificent woman generally, not perfect and I think given her age, it’s incredibly harsh to lay blame at her doorstep for what her son did.

He deserves the worst possible punishment for what he’s done and the blame lies with him.

You mean like the Beckhams...
