Newcastle United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Great win last night but here is a question?

which is our better pairing at the back
Guehi & Dias
or
Guehi & Kushanov

Overall great performance from the lads on the pitch to those in the stands.

Was a very comfortable 2-1 win, we should have bagged some more, but I can let the wet pitch go over excuses for that.

I was speaking to a fan behind me at the end in dialogue with me and my father, it seems we are trying to see out games like we did in the past. Which last few games I've been nervous about but very impressed on how we are doing it.

I'm curious why VAR deemed Ramsey not to have interfered with Donna's eyeline so quickly here... The second clip shows the ball going right by him while being undisputedly offside.

I have no problem with the goal being given.

Looking at this, I do have a problem with the fact this is the first time i've considered it.

We score that and it's forensics by the sports media to say we were lucky.

Great win, not a good performance but who cares.
However there is definitely an issue with 2nd half performances.
I thought yesterday that we would coast through the game as we had a weeks rest and toon had a long trip in midweek.
But again we struggled, the question is why does is keep happening.
I thought we had a much improved second half, defensively bolstered by Erl's contribution and the calmness of Guéhi. Also the intro of Khusanov was more added solidity. I thought it was a good performance compared to recent games. If only some of those good chances had gone in. . . . . . . . !

Agree with everything, but for me Bernardo has reached a higher level in games against the best teams in the world, including skills wise, than David or Yaya. He has scored more goals at Anfield, Old Trafford and Bernabeu than some of our older legends combined.

For example, his run at Anfield, where he dribbled past 5-6 Liverpool players including VVD, would have finished with the best assist in PL history had Foden scored from that chance. Or his performances against Bayern or Real in the treble season where he was MOTM in 3 of the 4 games against them.
Bernardo could play in any team in the world in any era, and stand out.

We have to keep him, he could be like Modric, another 5 years at the top.

Not the approach I expected and didn't really feel comfortable, but I suppose give credit to Howe and Newcastle for that as they could have reverted to type and just gone for the counter as per the first half, which didn't work for them. My concern would be more that we allowed that to happen, but can't for one second question the attitude and desire of this team.

Nico has pushed himself to first choice left back for England, then switches to midfield and pretty much becomes undropabble there too. Haaland, just immense.

Very rough away game next where we'll need more that just fight and desire. But we have that. Leeds is the only focus now. Not arsenal, not Chelsea, just Leeds. If Mikel wants to drop more points then how kind of him, but it's about us now.

If we're looking at Newcastle full backs then we're looking at the wrong one in Livramento. Something about Hall feels like he could even be a Bernie mk ii.

Get in there! Hard fought. Job done. Fair play to the geordies too. Was a good match to watch. There's a lot of fight in this team that I didn't see much of earlier in the season. Thought NOR, haaland and nunes were excellent.
