In terms of who I would like to play: Bodo > Benfica > Inter > Real Madrid.

I expect Real Madrid and Bodo to go through the play offs.

Inter please, would love to go back to Milan and San Siro would be a new ground for me!
We stayed in Milan prior to the Juventus game last season and had a look around the San Siro.

Obviously it's a lovely city, but the ground is a dump, with blue graffiti behind one end and red graffiti behind the other.

I saw Juventus win Serie A at the San Siro in 2005 (the Sunday before Robbie Fowler''s missed penalty v Boro) and I don't think anything has changed

Me and the lad have got our eye on the Milan Derby the Sunday before that round of fixtures, so will definitely make a little trip of it.

I walked around the San Siro about 15 years ago, never actually went inside. You're right about it being a dump though, plus very brutal architecture!

You probably have seen this article, or are aware of the plans for the San Siro, but if not I think you will like reading this. A new stadium is to be built next to the San Siro before the San Siro is demolished https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cglg1rge8j8o.

That's an interesting read about the gradual decline of Italian football all together. Could be very similar to what the future of the premier league looks like.

I did know about the San Siro plans, they've been wanting to move for years I believe. Think the logistics are difficult when there's 2 teams that play at the stadium, and the Stadium itself wasn't owned by either club.

So is there no draw for the later stages of the competition? Used to be a draw for each stage. Now it seems it's already mapped out?

So if we draw Real Madrid, for example, and win, and Arsenal draw Dortmund... we play Arsenal or Dortmund in the quarter finals?

Correct up to a point - we can only potentially meet Arsenal in the QF if we’re in the same half of the draw. After this Friday’s draw the ‘bracket’ is in place for the rest of the competition. It’s all part of the new format - incentivise teams to win games after they’ve already ensured qualification so that they get a better seeding for the knockouts but of course nothing is guaranteed as Liverpool found out last season.
Lots of City fans finding it all a bit alien - understandable as it was easy to switch off after we failed to reach the round of 16 last season.

Yes the whole draw is determined on Friday.

In the round of 16 we will play 1 of Real Madrid, Benfica, Inter, Bodo/Glimt.

In the quarter final (should we progress) we will play 1 of Bayern, Arsenal, Dortmund or Leverkusen (assuming Dortmund and Leverkusen make it out of the playoffs - they look likely to). The other we wont meet until the Final.

So theoretically 4 of the 8 ties in the last 16 could lead to these 2 QF matchups:
City/Real Madrid v Arsenal/Dortmund
Sporting/Bodo v Bayern/Leverkusen

But the winner of those 2 ties can't meet until the final as we go on the separate side of the draw to Sporting.

No Bodo. No plastic pitch should be allowed in any major cup competition. I include Macc in that.

I'd like Benfica, just because it's mean Madrid are out.

Other than that I'd fancy us over two legs against Bodo, or any of these for that matter. It'd be nice to put that defeat right though.
There's no chance UEFA will allow Benfica to beat them after what they did in the first leg.
