Favourite player?

Edin the ‘Bosnian Diamond’ my favourite. Not the best, but my favourite.

The best was ‘King Kev’

Mrs Vienna used to tell me that she and her City-supporting mates would often go to Best and Buzzer's shop, and try to bait Best about City being better than the rags, but he never bit.
I wonder if Mrs Vienna and I might have passed one another as I did something similar, just wandering by the shop, as my friend was mad about Best. I never really liked him as I felt he was too big headed, but I wanted to see Buzzer.
We worked in Parsonage Gardens not far from the shop. Happy, carefree days. :-) ;-)

It’s entirely possible, Eccles, as I think she spent quite a bit of time there, hoping to see Mike.

It is hard to pick one, but Dave Silva is probably that one.

My Dad worked with somebody that had his 1976 League Cup shirt. He loaned it my Dad so I could see it, put it on and took some photos. The lad said he was working at Maine Road and it was there in the dressing room so he swiped it. I told my Dad I would offer him whatever he wanted, id just started working aged 16 but I don't think my Dad mentioned it to him. I showed Willie the photos and he said he thought he had the shirt in a drawer but actually maybe he didn't lol.

After the interview he told me to ring him anytime but I thought what do I ring him about. Hey Willie do you fancy going down the pub for a pint and a chat about Scotland haha. I've met him a couple of times since and he did remember me.
That's fab. But you're right, what could you phone him about on spec?! He was a special guy, and I was sad to learn he and Yvonne split, but life happens. Where did that shirt end up I wonder.....?

The 76 league Cup final was a marker for me. I did my Alevels, started work. We won nada until 2011. My mum passed that year, she had been born in Stoke and I'm convinced she willed us the FA Cup! Anyhow move on to 2014, I took early retirement the Friday before we won The League Cup. I felt like that sort of squared the circle and was meant to be. ( I know we'd had 2012 93.20 in between) but the League Cup has always felt special.

We won the FA Cup in 2019 which was 50 years after Nelly Youngs great goal, ( I know we had done 2011), so I am hoping we are fortunate enough to win the League Cup again 50 years later. I hope the club invite Willie, Dennisand Barnsey and those still around from the team, who are able, as special guests. I so want to win because of the 50 years anniversary.

My school also closed 50 years ago, me and my still best mate were the last cohort to go through to get the full grammar school experience. I hated school, but as I got older I realised what an excellent free education I got. It stood me in good stead. We have a reunion due in April.

I just loved 1976 and everything about that year. My hub is the same, although we grew up 30 miles apart and didn't meet until the 80s, both had same experiences of that year.

So here is hoping for a League Cup repeat!! X

I totally get everything you have said about 1976. I was 8 in 1974 and my Dad went with his mates v Wolves. So in 1976 when I was 10 I thought he would take me as I already went to all the home games with him. He said he was going again with his mates for the last time and after that if we got there again he would take me. My Mam walked me over to the Queens pub on Monsall estate to wave him off at closing time. They had a van with an old carpet lay in the back and some old seats thrown in and a load of Watney Party cans.

When he got back early Sunday morning he had brought me a cracking Batman comic, a silk scarf and a Newcastle rosette which a Geordie gave him. Dad said the Geordie had an empty bottle of Whiskey so couldn't give my Dad a drink but asked if he had any kids and said give your lad my rosette and I still have it. We went down to Albert Square, silk scarf tied to my wrist. Ever since that game my 2 subbuteo football teams were always City v Newcastle. I've still got the Manchester Evening News Special they did in the Cup Final and other stuff related. I think I've also always loved Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads because of 1976 haha

Yaya - a player who could do everything, who could dominate a game, grab it by the scruff of the neck and turn it our way. In our pomp when we’d wrap games up early I’d spend a few mins each game largely ignoring the game and just watching him, mesmerised by his skill and know how, seeing where he moved and how he followed the game.

That semi final winner was probably the greatest football moment of my life, right since that moment I’ve loved him like a brother

Bless your dad and the Geordie fan.xx

A trip to Wembley really was special in those days.

I don't ever take it for granted, but all these fa cup semis have devalued the occasion for me.

The Likely Lads were mint, cracking comedy.

I would have noticed them too. Oh the England episode was a corker.

The Elm Lodge housing estate was the pinnacle of achievement for a Blue collar worker in the early 70s. The parents of a friend of mine saved for years and bought an almost identical property ( lookwise) to the one Bob and Thelma bought. It is bringing back such early memories, the 70s were a really great time to be a carefree teen. 3 day week, pah no problem, strikes get on with it! The music, the fashions, the vibe. Maine Rd, all bliss x

Before I completely derail. I liked Derek Parlane. That hatruck 17/9/83 in the 6-0 win against Blackburn was the only decent footy memory I have of that dreadful Blue year. I grieved all summer after that horror against Luton, so for Degsy to score a hattrick lighter my mood so he's been on my fave list since.

A beautiful mid September afternoon, a 6-0 win and we went to a wedding reception that night and I thoroughly enjoyed my vodka tonics.

The Happy couple are still married and are grandparents now.

Probably KDB or Kun. Two super important players in our recent history ,wouldn´t have that many premier league titles without them.
