I think this is spot on, and, granted, I have been more critical of Marmoush than of most players, but my issue isn't that I don't think he's a good player. My issue is more about what we paid and what we are paying and what we could've done with it, because what we have gotten for what we paid has not been good enough.
I think we bought him on the theory that he could play out on the left and provide cover for Erling. In theory, this was a good idea, especially because we had no threat of the wings at all last year. But at this point, we are a year into his time here, and it's pretty clear he can't play off the left in our system. I think he's fine as a guy to cover for Erling. But the problem becomes the same one we had with Grealish (albeit for different reasons). He's on almost 300K a week. For that money, you need to be a lot better than just a backup; you need to be an integral part of the team. We can go back to the Gabriel Jesus/Julian Alvarez route to find a young up-and-coming South American Striker with some versatility and pay them 100K a week and have 200K a week left over to get an Elliot Anderson/Alex Scott/Adam Wharton.
I think he will be someone who is off in the summer, and I think he will have offers from big clubs in a place like Italy, with AC Milan, and maybe Germany at Dortmund, but that's about his level. He's a good player but not great.
