Denton and Gorton by-election - Green Party wins

The most surprising thing was that it wasn't that close in the end.

As you say, it is likely to be close, unless there's a complete collapse somewhere. By the next election, Labour will have had some years in power, and almost no others will have a tranche of MPs with experience.
The most surprising thing is that in an important by election where EVERY vote counted 53% still did not vote. We seem to have lost faith in politicians, teachers, doctors, lawyers, judges, the media, the law, social workers, the NHS etc, etc. Something has gone wrong, badly wrong.

I'm glad it wasn't as that means the allegations made by Führage can be dismissed as being a bad loser like his mango mate his DC.

It may have been Muslims and equal amounts of other religious groups voting Green …..the arrest of over three thousand UK citizens, peacefully protesting our role in the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza will have featured strongly in the by election and will again in a future GE.

Dear oh dear - reported to GMP? No mention of them being an addressee nor having sent them a copy. Second he wants to complain about things that happened but cannot cite one of them with supporting evidence. Grievance performance from a butt hurt man child

And pretty sure GMP have come out and said they observed nothing dodgy. They're clearly in on the fix.

Nigel Farage crying about electoral fraud in the post Cambridge Analyticia/Russian Interference political landscape he has helped create is really quite something.

He might have gotten away campaigning on a single issue for this long but he's finally come up against a party that won't be cowed around the topic of immigration and will call out cynical nonsense levelled at them by political commentators. People who dont want to obsess over immigration and actually want to see a political movement that addresses the inequality impacting us all finally have something to vote for. Starmer's Labour project will go down as an abject failure and hugely wasted opportunity.

People who a few months ago probably thought the greens were fringe lunatics voted for them, to keep out Reform. That's a good sign for a general election that keeping out Reform will be the priority for a lot of people, in the centre and left.
How is it a good sign? Only vote for a party to keep another one out. Not because it’s the party you actually want in charge. Surely it could split the labour vote as well, which mean reform win more seats

Perhaps if Nigel had concentrated on the issue at hand-winning the byelection rather than going for photo opportunities in the Maldives he might have won some more votes. There again constituency presence is not one of Nigel's strong points. His vanity demands a world stage

Hasn't he complained about election fraud before? Got something in the back of my mind that he complained about it a few years ago, but when asked if he could provide any evidence he said that it was very difficult to come up with any but it had definitely happened!

In any case, if something dodgy has gone on it's highly unlikely that those Muslim votes would've gone to Reform anyway and his party might've ended up finishing third instead ;)

Thanet.

What is this family voting issue? Is the suggestion that one person within the family unit is "making" the others vote how they are told to?

I have 2 grown up kids...and we all vote the same way...not because i tell them how, but we all have similar beliefs and ideals.

I suppose you could argue that I've "brainwashed" my kids into how they think and vote

Watching how someone votes is illegal, you can as a head of a household try to convince someone how to vote but by law you are not allowed to go into the voting booth with them to make sure they vote the way you want them to.

It's that part that's wrong.

It's complete bullshit. It's a Trump-like excuse so reform supporters on twitter can claim they didn't really lose.

Well done to the greens.
I'm unsure about their manifesto or ambition but at least they have shaken the legacy parties from their complacency.
Just the written media to tackle now......

If Reform were never going to win why did they opt to run with one of their highest profile candidates? He's had a platform on GB News for the last 3 years and might be considered given his background to be one of the more intelligent members. I don't think given this he would sacrifice himself merely to appease Nigel. They clearly thought they could win but totally mis-judged the nature of the constituency.
Maybe I should have said I don’t think they would have won given the demographic I know from working in the area. You’re right, totally misjudged.

Surely if ‘family voting’ was going to be done and it was properly organised, it would be done by postal vote?
