US & Israel attack Iran

Just woken to a lot more damage across the city. Burj Al Arab hit by drone debris, next to the Burj Khalifa struck, a few other areas too and Dubai airport. Theres a partial communication blackout in place, can’t send WhatsApp messages at the moment.

Iran announced 20 minutes ago that they are launching the biggest offensive operation in their military history, so may be a few hours of arse twitching to begin.

School are already closed until Wednesday, so my teaching will move online.

Hope everyone around the Middle East is as well as can be! Stay safe.

Stay safe blue, I’ve got relatives in Dubai. It brings it home how serious this is when the Burj Al Arab is taking damage.

It's obviously no bad thing that he's dead but that alone isn't anywhere near enough for any meaningful change to happen. The US will have to go all in and declare war on Iran if they genuinely want to impose change. The whole regime doesnt just crumble when their leader dies, you've got to go much deeper than that. they also need viable, western friendly alternative leadership they can help get set up

Ordinarily, you'd have little doubt that these things would have been war gamed thoroughly before taking action but there is nothing in Trumps entire career in politics that would give anybody the confidence to say they'll have done all that and have a plan in place. If pushed for a prediction, I suspect Trump will be very happy with his "win" that he'll dine out on for a couple of weeks to distract and will now leave them completely alone to deal with the fallout themselves. he won't commit to anything more than green lighting and supplying Israel with the weapons to bombard Iran with air strikes for the forseeable.

They'll be a hefty retaliation from Iran and they'll be many lives lost as a result, the question is, will killing an 86 year old man and the backlash and chaos it will cause, save more lives than it will cause deaths?

Not sure there is currently a clear answer to that right now.

What, in the entire history of US military interventions, gave you that impression?
 
I am optimistic and hopeful for the future of Iran. Their people have been tortured for too many decades and they now have some hope of freedom.

Regardless of Trump’s personal motivations and need for a distraction, it is a good thing that the head of that murderous oppressive regime is now in a thousand pieces.

It certainly does, and killing 30,000 of his own citizens in a month, the countless thousands who’ve been executed over the years of his rule, ties to countless other deaths through hundreds of terrorist attacks around the world that he funded and provided weapons and training for, and some consequences that happened off the back of them saw this **** deservedly snuffed out.

Supposed to fly out to Doha today on route to Thailand but that’s not happening so waiting now to see what hey can do for us . Hopefully can rebook in a couple of weeks .
 
Just thought I would mention something I read about Khameini. His political life and tactics were formed in the 80s during the Iran/Iraq war, you remember the one where we supported Saddam and more than a million people died. Understandably he grew to dislike the West and the US in particular. He perceived Iran to be under threat and created a strong military structure and authoritarian government which reflected his concerns.

We've been messing around in the area for well over a century and this latest excursion will no doubt be added to the misadventures in Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Syria and Palestine. Just like the French in North Africa and Indochina it usually ends badly.

Ye I read they knew exactly where they were meeting that morning, most attacks start at night this was in the morning, I wonder if the so called peace meetings were a ploy, they offer Iran a deal and then the high council in Iran meet to discuss it, Israel have intelligence about it and boom they hit them. Very clever and Mossad certainly know what they are doing. I’m glad he’s dead and hopefully more of the higher ups go, but I don’t think for one second that Trump and Israel have a plan for what happens next.
