Leeds United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

And in the second half, when we were defending the lead (which is the relevant point)? I'm trying to remember them having an effort on target. And I'm struggling. The official stats say that they had two efforts on target, and I'm pretty sure they were both in the first half.
Good for you.
My opinion we were lucky.

It's not about a leader. We have them. What we need is a super dangerous playmaker that most of our attacks go through, like Kev.
Cherki is a brilliant playmaker and he could become intrinsic to our success this season.
We just need players like moosh and nor and bernardo to know when to expect and anticipate the through ball. We are not as proficient at probing through balls as we were, once we are, opposing teams will fear us again.

The Nico-Rodri-Bernardo midfield for all its strengths has no creativity. Compare it to Fernandinho-Silva-KDB or Rodri-KDB-Gundogan and we’re just missing that person that plays the killer pass.

It’s why Cherki was so crucial today because the Marmoush-Haaland-Semenyo front line also doesn’t have someone who can pick the lock.

I guess medium-long term Pep will be hoping Foden gets back to his best and Cherki develops the defensive nous/off ball sense to play in the midfield 3 rather than the front 3.

Well, I mean, one of their big chances - the Aaronson one-on-one that Donnarumma smothered - would have been called back for offside and the Calvert-Lewin sitter should have been called for a foul on Guehi. So...

Plus what you've said there is part of my argument, Leeds came out like a house on fire because of course they were going to. They're at home under the lights playing a big team. Once they ran out of steam they did nothing.

We have to keep the ball better. There's no denying that. But overall the performances are getting there and when someone puts about five different stats in front of you to say "Actually we were okay" you can't just dismiss them.

They did nothing, really? All about opinions.
They take one of the chances and we don't win that game.

One was offside, the other a foul
Neither was given at the time so, you don't know for sure.
Leeds fans would say they should have had a penalty for handball and Cherki should have seen red.

Anyone who think we can start games like we did yesterday against better sides and go unpunished is deluded.

Great result. Arguably the worst standard of refereeing I’ve seen in a Premier League game though.

Countless times they gave the throw-in/corner the wrong way. There was that incident where Silva gets booted in the chest and no foul.

Not good enough!
On Twitter the Leeds fans are furious with the ref. That's football, you can watch a match and come to completely different conclusions.

solid professional performance for me, normally at 1-0 away I'm on pins but not last night , don't remember donna having anything to do apart from some corner/throw in punches
onwards and upwards to wednesday

I always thought he’d be great for us
He has such a lot to his game , positioning, workrate, skill, awareness, and of course goals…. Already one of our most important players.
He can do long throws too but I’m guessing Pep isn’t keen on them.
So glad we bought him.
Forget long throws, can he actually take a throw-in of any length and actually find a City player?

A weird start to the game with City deliberately inviting the press from a standing start and then losing the ball on 2-3 occasions.
That's what happens when you start passing to O'Reilly's/Bernardo's/Ait Nouri's right foot

Fun and games trying to get into the toilet at Half Time and then discovering that the three urinal spaces to my left were all vacant, with the smokers blocking the route and causing all the funneling

It appears the issue was the time added on. I must admit to being surprised when the ref blew up dead on time - we're all accustomed to seeing another 2 or 3 mins added on top of the added time. I think the ref showed the red very quickly to their manager.
He quite obviously questioned his parentage but ref cam ha ha will confirm it

We need Doku and Cherki for creativity, they are the top creators in the league per 90. Ideally, one of them starts every game.

Hopefully Foden will find the role that best suits him. My guess is Tuchel is right, it's between a 9 and a 10, i.e. more as forward than as a midfielder. Anyway, we'll need him in good form.

But that's sort of my point, that even if those two big chances had been taken they'd likely have been ruled out by VAR.

In regards to the goal, I very much liked Cherki's pass and Ait-Nouri's run and cross. Ait-Nouri is proving to be an effective attacking full back.

I didn't think it was a great City performance. I expected Leeds to start hard and they did, but they also could easily have been 1-0, or 2-0 up before City got into it. However, all that matters is the 3 points.

I can watch Arsenal v Chelsea with hope now.
Cherki’s pass was a thing of beauty. It needed just the right weight and exactly the right direction. No margin for error

Yeah. I think the bigger issue is that we don’t win enough duels. When we win our fair share again, we’ll start dominating.

O’Reilly in midfield is tipping the balance for us at the moment, so hopefully his ankle twist isn’t too bad.

Thought it was odd to replace him with Reijnders over Nico G today.
Maybe hoped we'd play further up pitch or out ball

like a team who wear black and white and up norf!
Both one team towns. They are always a funny lot when the whole town is telling each other how amazing there club is

Leeds have a humongous catchment area. Apart from Bradford , they have the whole of that massive part of Yorkshire to themselves. But there support hasnt always reflected that.
Same with Newcastle.

People can call Citys support all they want but we have 7/8 full time pro clubs on our door step to fight for support with
